Don’t disagree for the most part but the goal for them is a win-win. They want it to be either folks roll over and take it (and they get to be in control) or resist weakly/ineffectively and they get to escalate (and win if that escalation scares people into giving up). People in power rarely give up power without some concerted action that pushes through the “control” enough to disturb the general public out of complacency.

It was never about individuals owning guns. It was always about communities being organized to defend themselves, with guns if necessary.

Well said. It's also important to remember that the importance of the second amendment reflected the immediate need for militias at the time. The newly formed US had just a hint of a standing army, and that only temporarily. Practical defense devolved to small local groups with substantially less formality than today's national guards. Today the situation could not be more different.

It was also a product of its time - in that the Crown was disallowing the sales of firearms and black powder to the colonies to better control them (before the war). lol no. The founding fathers wanted people to have guns because standing armies are expensive to maintain. They always intended for those with guns to be subordinate to the state which is why they explicitly tie it to militia membership and explicitly define a militia as being under state control.

Article I, Section 8, "organize, arm, and discipline the militia, which can be called into service by the President."
