Cult mentality

I have a maga coworker and found out whatever sources he uses for news thinks fox news is too left wing biased. I've stopped talking to him as much and never about politics. It's just not worth the hassle.

My Dad always told me "you can't argue with idiots".
He wasn't wrong

You can’t reason with faith.

I had a co worker say something about antifa. I was like you mean the American world war 2 vets. He was doing wild mental gymnastics after that.

Jean-Paul Sartre: "They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert."

The best way to deal is ensure they have no access to facts or any assistance in their lives from people who live with facts. Let them argue that red is green and get run over at the next intersection.

Let them live thier values, and never deal with them.

I had the same issue with Nazi dickheads in the Australian subreddits the other day (Australia day aka Invasion Day - when all the white supremacists come out) and the "fascism is a specific idealogy" talking points (I swear they all get these motifs from the same place) bullshit came out. I immediately realised these are bad faith actors. There's no point engaging. Lucky on that day the first Nazi was arrested in Oz for hate speech in public and I reminded them that words now have consequences

This is 100% true about any right-wing person. They do not ever have facts, just hate. When they run out of their "facts", the turn hostile towards the other person and attack them personally. They yell at you and might even be violent, until you agree with them or stop talking. Then they feel superior because in their mind, they won and they were right. I had friends like this, not friends anymore. Everytime they talked about politics and how immigrants are ruining everything. When I presented

facts, they tried to decline them. When I showed source to them, they said it was lies. when you prove them logically and by facts the truth, everytime they turn hostile and started to yell at me. "How fucking stupid are you?" "you fucking hippie love all asshole! You are the fucking problem!" and one even started to call me mentally disabled, because I know immigration is not the problem. They are the problem. Fuck those guys. I rather be alone. I am so tired of hate and greed in this world.

When you learn about narcissistic behavior, its all makes sense.

Talking time is over, sadly. Sides have been chosen.

You CAN argue with them but you CANNOT beat them. They are playing a different game entirely with their own set of crooked rules. If they believe in lies, then you lie back. Tell them the information you know but claim that’s what you heard on Fox News or whatever if they say differently. You can also just make insane shit up because who cares anymore? Don’t bother getting mad at idiots because it just tires you out

That sounds an awful lot like an atheist arguing with an apologist.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its like religion. The simple fact that religion exists is proof humans are stupid beyond words

You cannot debate them through reason and deduction, because that is not how they reached their own conclusions. They have the moral compass of a 13 year old at the back of a social studies class, with their only aim to provoke and antagonize

I was taught that the definition of ignorance is the refusal to change one’s mind/worldview in the face of irrefutable evidence.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There is a phrase for this: Mythic Truth. We believe facts dictate reality they believe reality is dictated by their truth. It's why no amount of evidence can counter them, their TRUTH is stronger than REALITY. If reality shows them something that doesn't align with reality then they can just discard reality because it can't be that way.

I imagine an older white guy who just wants to hear how Trump is succeeding. And any news that contradicts that narrative is simply turned off. They want to hear that they’re guy is the bestest best and they go searching for that content and ignore any content, including yknow actual news and world events, that may imply Trump might not be the bestest best. Which is why the right has spun off into Candace Owen’s conspiracy fantasy land because it’s the only place where Trump is succeeding lol

I don't argue reality with anyone who believes their skydaddy hates me because I don't believe the same things they do. https://media2.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPWE1NzM3M2U1Z2Q3MDgxN21vc3g3amZhZ25sOGcxaTVvdng2NGhubGl5aXUwb2pleSZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n/w0mylo7p4OXUQ/200w.gif

Conservatives since... as long as I can remember?

If you spend all your time on defense in an argument, you'll often lose. You need to attack their arguments, question their logic, put them on the defensive and make them explain conflicting information not only to you, but to themselves.

They're still too stupid to actually understand this and change.

New guy started at work. On day 1, he asked me how to do something in the database. I explained it simply and WHY we do it like we do it. He replied with "That's not what I asked, I understand databases..." and then asked a completely different question. Shortly later, he asked something and I answered as if he knew about databases, and he said "Whoa, slow down, I don't know too much about databases." I never tried to help him again and THEN found out he was like a super-MAGA, racist, homophobe.

The enemy is a pathology masquerading as ideology

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're bullies and abusers. If you try to argue or debate with them, they *do not* see you as a person. They don't care about convincing you. They're right because they're right, you're wrong because they're right. Any pretense of a debate is just them abusively playing games.

They know they're lying. The cruelty is the point.

so much this. Pretzel Logic is not required, magats are evil and cruel, PERIOD.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, you can argue with maga all day long. They love it. You just can't convince them they're wrong about something; they're there to lie, troll, and own the libs (by lying and trolling).

Don't take homework assignments from strangers on the internet.

it is not my job to teach you stuff you should have learned in elementary school (tho, we really should start teaching critical theory in Junior High)... and if you don't have the basic skills of humanity (compassion, empathy, understanding, courtesy), I am not wasting further time on you (your parents and religion have failed you, you should seek some form of redress with them).

what's crazy is that i 100% felt like critical thinking was taught growing up. Literature, Art, Science, History, Current events... the issue is i guess people stopped using it when they left school. Like trigonometry.

1/3 of Americans never read another book after high school... 42% stop reading after college...

Reading is the magic bullet for people... for me, i can't sleep without reading first...
