Haha, out of all my friends, I'm the least dysfunctional, so I can't relate to this at all
feverishdodo
This comment section makes me feel so grateful for my family. We have certain dysfunctional streaks but are otherwise close.
waffleincubator
Oh yeah, same here. On the other hand I'm the youngest by 7 years so my perspective may be bit off.
grumplestiltzkin
Yeah, when I went to an easter brunch with my hs gf. I knew I didnt like my family, but I didnt realize just how fucking bad they were.
complimentpin
Honestly I have plenty of disagreements with family, but I get a long really well with them. Being chill people helps.
YoungV
I used to cry on mother's/father's day, but now I'm just mostly sad. Not everyone has parents or a family.
mushroomking
Then there are people who would truly be much better off if this were the case. Families operate on a pretty wide spectrum.
HsuDoNihm
Yo, right here. Departed shitty family years back. It's a bit lonely, yes, but no more backstabby shit from supposedly trustworthy people.
HandsomeJack19
My sister's boyfriend back in the day (an East coaster) couldn't believe that we, her family, didn't interrogate him when we first met him.
We are midwesterners, we keep things on the surface.

I miss having a family, so this meme hits home.
Imguralterego
1) We have what I always thought was a 'normal' family life. We had friends from NY over for dinner, sat around the table and ate, then
2) the teenage kids did the dishes (so we could chat to our friends), came and gave us hugs and went to bed. Our guests told us later
3) that they had only ever seen a family dinner like that on TV, and asked if we were putting it on. We didn't know what they meant.
4) this is our normal. It really taught me not to take it for granted.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhchu
Not once.
justajiggygiraffe
I remember vividly going to friends houses as a teenager and realizing for the first time that my family was abnormal. Felt real weird
ImpalaChick
My SO's family is like this
wegonfight
Yes, they're called Mormons, MORE-muns.
callmesirgoddamnit
This is ridiculously accurate.
JiffyDealer
Who hurt you?

The MORE-muns did it
CatOnTheRoof
It is all pretend. In most families everybody hates everybody, and they will pretend all is well, when there are guests.
FourScoreandSevenKickstotheBalls
Eh, it depends. Our family is great, but both my parents had fucked up childhoods. I think that really led to our family life being good
AlrightKeepYourSecrets
Thats fucked up, not at all

Does it bother anyone else that the "tear" trail doesn't run straight down his face but off to the side like he used eye drops?
B0ULLIE
He may have been facing the sky when it fell
MericanFunkYeah
He's either laying down or that's a strong fucking wind
FoolishDomin
Gravity doesn’t effect tears and saline solution much differently. His head was leaning back...
ChristopherKostyshyn
I think the implication was that if he was using eye drops, he was dropping them into his eyes with his head tilted back (like people do)
I literally spray my eyes with the bottle lol
TedTheMan
Ouch!
Why do you all fuckin hate your family so much? I’ve got 5 siblings and i love all those cunts.
tiarali
I love my siblings. But my dad is, was, and always will be abusive. Nobody else will stand up to him so family events are stressful.
WhenYouMissoutOntheCoolUsernames
You didn't grow up like we did?

It's called acting for company. My waspy family excells at it

My boyfriend's family is kinda like that. The sister is a bitch. But the parents are wholesome and love eachother. I admire them.

So sorry for everyone who has to deal with this. I work with the elderly and it breaks my heart learning about so many shitty family 1/2
histories. It makes me appreciate my family more and more every day. 2/2

Some things you can't fake. Visiting a friend who's parents were genuinely fond of their kid kinda messed me up a bit, afterwards.
At least you recognized it when you saw it. There's people out there that wouldn't know the difference.
That's true -- one can't be resentful to healthy relationships, as it's all relative (pun not intended, but now it is).
One can be envious and have desire and sadness over the lost opportunities, I have tried those emotions.
