Cleaning up blood at dialysis clinics be like ⤴️
(These photos are from the internet and are not mine. It's a little unprofessional and frowned upon to take pictures of blood spills in front of patients)
PS. Did you know that in the dialysis world, we call summer months "donor season"? It's because motorcyclists are out riding and deadly accidents happen. More kidney donors.

Lucy! You got some ‘spainin to do!

Never piss a dialysis nurse off. For all we know that's practice.

Bloody hell
bobgunrunnersmith
Good Lord, looks like arterial spray!
CargoManshark
Kinda, dialysis access sites bleed very quickly and can spray quite far

It's always LNI somewhere!

I had my machine catch fire once. I had to help the nurses crank my blood back into me. Thankfully, I don't need the bloodwash anymore.

The top one is arterial spray, crazy.
Megageth
Bike rider here, your post prompted me to register as an organ donor. My kidneys are poked but there should be some 'serviceable' bits.

Someone sneezed really hard or?

Nice paint job in the children's hospital.

Looks like a good place to commit a bloody murder.

Is that the ceiling in the bottom two pictures? There isn't any downwards dripping like a wall would have.

They are unrelated. The first could be arterial spurting but we are too close to the pattern to be sure. (former blood spatter guy)

Doesn't work well for me though

Same here for 10 years as a nurse. A little bit of blood looks like a lot. You know it's a decent amount when you can smell the iron.
CargoManshark
As a dialysis patient, thank you. You guys work hard in a thankless job.

Thank your nurses

That's some crime scene cleanup

In med school (77-81) blood was everywhere! Arterial sticks with no gloves! This was before HIV and hep-C. It was wild at Detroit General!
StepRightUp
Yep. Even before luniversal precautions” the MD urologist I assisted never wore gloves, just washed hands after each pt exam (EWWWW!)

Good photos! I worked in a dialysis unit for 26 years. This is an all too common sight. The blood vessels used to do the treatment are (1)

...veins that have been surgically altered to introduce arterial flow. This makes them strong enough to manage the pressure forces of a (2)

...dialysis machine pumping blood in and out the client's body. The machine "washes" the accumulated toxins out of the blood. (3)

...But because the vein now has arterial flow, they can spurt just as well as an artery. So messes like this can and do occur for (4)

...all sorts of reasons. Thankfully it all gets cleaned up very well, and the client will survive the incident. Thank you Dialysis Staff!

Two words: Audible bleeding. One of my worst shifts was when a guy's AV fistula sprung a leak at 0430.
TurduckenMcNugget
On Monday I got to listen to the sound of my blood spraying into the toilet for a good 10-15 seconds. Surgery is scheduled for next month.

Nice abstract art too...thank you for doing one of the Hard Jobs
Superbobbit
My only question is why does it have to be a picture of my parents fighting?
HorriblyPositive
Read that as hand not hard. Either way appreciated.
Whatdoyousaytoanicecupoftea
Mate, if you're getting blood from hand jobs please consider relaxing your grip
HorriblyPositive
Buddy at my age if I get anything from a hand job I thank the dark forces and move on.

every one of these replies made me laugh out loud
