There's virtually no point in trying to argue with or deprogram a hard-core MAGA cultist, but the few remaining moderate Republicans might possibly be rescued. If it's just impossible for them to vote Blue after a lifetime of hearing Dems are the most evil thing ever, then ask them to just sit this one out and not vote at all. They might be willing to do that. Even if they're hoping for "real Republicans" to one day return, by not voting MAGA again, they're still helping get rid of tRump.

Although not to this extent, they way we all feel towards MAGA in term of arguing with them is the same I have felt toward most Christians I've met even as a kid. Didn't feel safe nor did I feel like I could discuss or be vulnerable with them

what's crazy is that they actually do, on occassion, accept a fact, but then they just accept it and say it's OK. Like, "he never murdered anyone" and then "well, it's all a ploy", then "Well, you've murdered too, but he had good reason and you're a murdere", then "well, he murdered the guy, but he could have murdered a bunch of people, so we should be thankful"

So, this is what we consider the difference between a "good faith" and a "bad faith" discussion.
In a "good faith" discussion there is an understanding that facts and sources matter, and logic should be behind every argument. And also that if you realize you were wrong, you will actually say so.
In a "bad faith" discussion it's the opposite and those are a waste of time.

Speaking as a former republican, I urge people to try. Not at the risk of your stress levels rising, but occasionally. People on the Left constantly providing sources is one of the biggest reasons my eyes were opened. You gotta understand that a lot of us were raised with these beliefs, its baked into the very core of our development. I think it took until around 30 for me to understand how wrong they are. Well trump helped lol, one of the few useful things hes ever done.

The cult's grandparents grew up in the McCarthy era, their parents listened to Rush Limbaugh, and they were homeschooled (i.e. the stupid teaching the stupid-er) so they got little to no contact with different people, especially other races and religions, and no exposure to different ideas. Now they watch Fock Snooze and believe QAnon. They're carefully-bred sheep, incapable of thinking for themselves or analyzing and questioning any of it.

Same here. Raised in a conservative family and voted how my parents did. As an adult I began to question things, but it wasn’t until Trump that I reallzed I was on the wrong side of the fence. It can be uncomfortable to reevaluate your whole belief system. But if I hadn’t had Imgur during that time I don’t know if I would have seen the things I needed to in order to really change. Fox News certainly wasn’t showing me them. They still have my family convinced that the democrats are the bad guys.

But I think you're rare. You can't forcibly airlift someone out of a cult, only help them once they've decided to escape. And it *is* a cult, in how it controls critical thinking. In my experience, most people won't poke the mindset change required with a 10ft pole

from my perspective MAGA structurally is a religious cult but with political trappings. This is why it overlaps so heavily with evangelicals. We've seen many videos of people actually praying to Shitstain and invoking his name just like they do with Jesus. The mentality is the same. The in-group/out-group mindset is the same. Fox preaches their gospel and they take it as faith.
