This is so they can charge more for the previous sections in existence not creating a cheaper option.
Maldraek
...steerage?
Kakeukh
No no no you don't get it. It's BELOW economy. You get tied up and rolled between the legs of the Economy-class people. Below.
aTacticalFerret
So it's Airline class?
DarkBlueB
That was 4 years ago...
y0usurname
My broke ass would straight up be like, "you mean I can ride in your air travel tube? BEST DAY EVER"!!!
MrBurgerPants
I'd go for the "knock me the F out, put me in a box with a hole or 2 and wake me when we get there" option.
HarryFrumvrk
At least it has fresh air?
bloodydingo
There's a charge for that.
MonsoonPoultryHospital
Everyone just stands and holds onto a pole like on the subway.
Gianttesticlemonster
It exists. It's called basic, and it's really not worth the couple of bucks you save.
augor1
Sardine can with wings: now with premium squish experience!
MiniMegaOfParagonCity
You get a small crate in the cargo hold
PicassoCT
To reduce price and space requirements, while raising comfort, legs will be amputated pre boarding and served in the meals..
pm1001
This is what happens when you sort the Expedia list by price. Buy the cheapest, get crap. What do you expect?
SpammersAreScum
This is old. American introduced their "Basic Economy" over 3-and-a-half years ago, and that was after Delta and United.
hunglikehodor
Flew basic economy with United and hated it. They borderline call you a piece of shit when you are boarding the plane.
Vident99
This is almost five year old article: https://www.economist.com/gulliver/2016/02/23/americas-airlines-are-introducing-a-class-below-economy
For some reason many posts like this don’t include the source in Imgur and personally I find it quite annoying.

Standing places only and paying for the ticket directly to the pilot
coffeebot9000
Speed tape cost more than economy tickets.
70m4h4wk
Yeah, that 1000mph tape is no joke. I was on a plane once and the crew was taping one of the panels on the wings. A couple people panicked
They didn't believe that the tape is at least as strong as the rivets they normally use
Eag1eye
You have to bring your own tape
I like your idea, promote that man!
Deletingmypastandfuture
It’s just a bus.
acme64
I was at a tiny airport in CA, the lady opens the terminal door, a bus is sitting outside, i look at her and ask, i thought we where flying?
boobsalot
Bus seats are bigger.
c64masterrace
An Airbus perhaps?
ScreamingGreenFrog
At that point depending on where you are going. Just take a train.
shh thats an upgrade from sub economy
I just want trains to make a comeback
baronnapalm
They really should replace planes on shorter routes. Between major cities in the north east for example. Boston, NY, DC, Philly.

Maybe instead we could introduce Nationwide high speed commuter rail. Just a thought
byohzzrd
Mmmmmm no. Rail is a gov't subsidized boondoggle. Like worse than Trenitalia. Like barely functional.
kuriosly
And that would still cost more and be slower then flying.
Would definitely cost way less, and when you add in commute time to airport/security/layover time for a lot of rural America it is faster
nero4ty2
most of the us is too spread out for rail to be justifiable, works well in densely populated areas like the northeast, not the midwest
Which is also why it's needed. It's much easier to reach rural areas with rail than with airplanes
not efficiently or cost effectively, to build the infrastructure to expand our current rail service would make it much more expensive than >
it already is, currently it costs 3-5X what a plane does and takes 10 times longer, and that's between large cities, there isn't enough >
traffic to justify it to rural places
ballinthegroin
Finally adding the standing only section.
SadToSay
You laugh, there's concepts. They've tried.
cyrilzeta
That's been tried (and ruled unsafe)
Drakenborn
Not if we change the definition of "seated"
TheBigBadBonerBiter
Give it time and enough bribes, it'll happen.

Not since the accident.

I wonder if we all had our own tokyo hotel capsule if they could fit more people comfortably...
DancingShark
Slept in one of those and at 3am a fat, drunk Asian dude crashed in the one above me. It was a nightmare.
CocaineAndSelfPleasure
That’s being explored actually.

This is probably old news. Basic Economy has existed for years already. No changes, even for a fee. Board last, no seat selection. If you 1/
fly United they don't even give you a carry-on they're the worst of the legacy carriers. Although AA has thinner more cramped seats than 2/
The701
Yup. February 2016.
even Southwest these days and AA pulled out seat back entertainment too.
