visions of Ramstein 1988. tragic. condolences

At least it was quick. My husband was fortunate enough to get to ride a B-17, but a week later, that same plane crashed and killed everyone.

Not saying he's a black cat...

RIP captains and crew.

Holy shit

Okay I think it's lo g past time to stop flying IRREPLACEABLE WW2 AIRPLANES!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Particularly when crewed with irreplaceable lives.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Sad

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

what a tragedy

3 years ago | Likes 132 Dislikes 2

Pickup should have parked properly in their spot, pilot would not have been distracted...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is so fucking awful.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You can see from this angle how the pilot of the P63 could not see the bomber as it was in its blind spot. Tragic.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How the hell could this happen? Another air-show disaster, I really wish we were past the point of these sorts of things still happening.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Given the number of airshows and flight time, accidents are still EXTREMELY uncommon. The internet just makes them a lot more visible now.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

That number of air-show flights is far smaller than all commercial aviation, and in 2017 not a single passenger jet crashed.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, that really sucks!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A fucking B-17! dude why does this keep happening? ATC? ATC?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Atc does nothing in these situations but block non participating aircraft from the designated zone

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nopenopenope there was a crash like this years ago and my pal was there it was horrific

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s dire.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

crazy

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Oomph, sad and scary

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Holy shit

You can see the moment that woman's perception turned from surreal to too real.

3 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 0

That woman looks like a kid.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 35

It’s a big truck

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not sure why you're being downvoted - she *does* look like a kid.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Thankfully the terror for the crew was short. RIP

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

One can only hope it was a big surprise for the crew.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

Or they didn't have time to process it.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It seems to fall so slowly, I’m sure it felt like a lifetime for the pilot.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Momentary panic, then nothing. Kind of like a catastrophic injury to a pedestrian from a car collision, gone before you hit the ground. RIP.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

.....what the absolute.....what was the fighter doing?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Looks like he was in mid-manouvre and didn't notice anything to even begin reacting to anything.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

With that era of aircraft, is this kind of showing off unwise (you kinda sound like you might know stuff)?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't know, I'm mostly guessing.... We'll never know for real, but a somewhat measured guess is that the B-17 might have been higher

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

up than expected, or moving faster than the Kingcobra pilot expected. The Kingcobra wiggles slightly, I don't know if that means anything.

wings full of fuel.....

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rough for those kids. They just saw a bunch of people die.

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

No kid, it wasn't meant to happen.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Excuse me WHAT? We lost the b17 flying museum? When, where, this is the first I heard of it. That’s horrible

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Happened today in Dallas 11/12/2022

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

That’s depressing. Pilots and crew of the bomber never had a chance.

3 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 0

One can only hope things happened a little too fast for them to react, or even register. "Only" saving grace...

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

The forward fuselage of the B-17 was unharmed; the waist gunners got wiped, but anyone up front had a few absolutely unimaginable seconds.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Yeah was thinking this. Anyone forward of the waist guns had time to see it coming sadly.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What’s the word on the fighter pilot? I’m not sure but the fuselage of it doesn’t seem to explode when it hits ground.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People don't really survive crashes like that; unless he ejected before this clip I'd put his odds at much worse than winning the lottery.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Given how hard it collided with the bomber, I wouldn't be surprised if he was dead before he even hit the ground.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I’d expect you’re right. Just clutching at straws.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All six dead. 5 on the B17 (crew, no customers) and the pilot of the P63

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What the fuck was he thinkin'?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Likely either equipment failure or medical distress. Just about the worst time for either to happen.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Would suggesting that perhaps air shows need a major rethink be uncalled for? There's been a few major incidents lately.

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 5

Notice how the wreckage all landed on the runway, a long way from the crowd. That was a deliberate safety measure that worked.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah while they're cool, I think they're an expensive use of resources and dangerous. Extremely tragic

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

The issue with this crash is some flight plan violation when shows are mapped out to avoid close aerial displays.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The problem is these groups that seem like they're cosplaying as professionals.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

The P63 was piloted by a United Captain with a TON of experience. It looks like he probably just made a very bad error at a very bad time

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Flying a passenger jet and a fighter plane are totally different skillsets. How often could he even fly the P63 to get practice?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Tragic loss of life. Tragic loss of aircraft.

3 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 2

Was looking for words, you found them.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Saw it and thought the same. Unless a miracle happened, that's a sad group of deaths. After that thought, the history, evaporated.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Who cares about the aircraft? The tragic loss was the lives.

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 78

Since you asked, the B52 is arguably the most culturally significant American plane that is discontinued and still in service.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I personally don’t give a shit about the aircraft, but I understand it is very important to others, and that is important to me.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It can be both

3 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 3

It's not though. When people die in a car crash no one says "tragic loss of a car". No one will be mourning the aircraft.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 55

If there is a classic car involved, sure people do.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if a horrific crash involving a model T & another important automotive relic killed everyone involved in a horrific fireball, yes they would

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mourn the aircraft, we ain’t just gonna conjure up another B-17

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is more like a museum burning down, killing a few people. The people are more important, but the aircraft are still significant.

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

I just want to chime in that the men who died dedicated a lot of their time to these aircraft. You don't just casually fly these things or

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

or learn to fly them unless you have a passion for the history of these aircraft. I would in fact say that you are disrespectful to those

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These were historically significant aircraft that took hundreds if not thousands of man hours to restore to airworthy condition. It's tragic

3 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

No, the deaths are tragic. The planes are inconsequential compared to them.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 51

That's really sad.

3 years ago | Likes 362 Dislikes 2

I actually feel more sad about the loss of historic airframes than life due to negligence

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 192

Nothing tells it's negligence.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s not a Blue Angels show. You don’t do dramatic maneuvers on a whim.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Describe what makes you this way… Do you have aspergers? Did your mother spit in your mouth every day? Are you from Finland? What happened??

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you already know that it is not a material problem (on an 80 years old equipment)? That it is not a health problem ? That it is not

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that's because you're an asshole.

3 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

My three year old sociopath has more empathy than you. Get wrecked fucker.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Have you visited a plane graveyard? Bring flowers.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Fuck the historic airframe, I'd take the people any goddamn time. What a shit take.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Even nazis, got it. Or should I regard your take as I’ll considered reactionary?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 19

Are you comparing the crew of a B-17 to nazis? Is this really where we are at now?

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

No. But you said, in all moral righteousness, “anyone” in spite of knowing nothing about them.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 20

What an absolutely barbaric, asinine take.

3 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 4

Seriously… our population of utter sociopaths gotten so unruly they just announce themselves like it’s no big deal now.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Individual tragedy aside, on the broad scale those lives, while regrettable and pointlessly spent, are replaceable. History isn’t.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 100

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

We replace history every fucking second. It's only fools like you that attach a near-religious, artificial worth to symbols and bits of

3 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 3

matter, and let your judgment be clouded by nostalgia to the point where you forget that you're a part of humanity. You saw that crash

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

No human life is replaceable, you stupid moron.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

For the record, stewedtomatoers just mutes anyone he doesn’t like, regardless of different perspective, civility, or no insults given.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 28

We do t “replace” history every second. We just replace History most meaningful to current generation. Entirely diff thing.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 21

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

There was no civility in your comments. Your "perspective" is that plastic, metal, and cloth is more important than human life. Disgusting.
