Long COVID sucks. It felt like a regular cold for the week I had COVID in April last year, but resulted in me being driven from work in an ambulance a few weeks later barely able to breathe. Had triggered pericarditis (fluid surrounding heart) and costochondritis (inflammation between each rib) and I'm still barely able to do one shift a week to this day from pain :(

It gave me anemia so severe I was shivering cold in 95F and I didn't realize it for months until my spouse pointed it out. Long covid took me around 5 months to recover from. Another guy I know took almost a year to recover and was debilitated. Couldn't work, could barely eat.

My buddy was going through long Covid. Then had to fight colon cancer. Won. And now found out he has a growth in his lungs. Dude is not catching a break. As a journalist, working from home is an option. But that's still a lot of bullshit to go through just because 40% of the population think they're too special to get vaccinated.

Yep, the pandemic is far from over, and for some people it may be years if not more until they can get a semblance of their normal life back.

And the ones who were already vulnerable and had to shield, are coming up on 4 years being stuck at home even though we now have adequate protections that could make it safe enough for them to live in society, if only society cared. But now not even medical providers will mask up let alone ventilate rooms, so those people have to risk their lives just to get basic healthcare, let alone anything else like get groceries, use public transport, etc.

The clue is in the name … 9 months is realistically not all that long, in the chronic illness world. There are people with Long Covid triggered from the start of the pandemic. And they're all still relatively new in the world of ME (which is basically what she has now).

Have a friend from high school that's been staying with it for almost as long. Watching everyone in my family act like it was no big deal after that and watching my fairly healthy uncle tank in under a week was brutal and sobering.

yup, I got it when it first came to Australia, still dealing with the fatigue, I can fight through it for a while but then I'm wrecked for days after, also the hot flushes all the time are a PITA although the constant brain fog is the biggest issue

Ya. A lot of people are dealing with this Covid’s mortality rate is about 1% but since its infection rate is so high that made it a big problem. But the problem no one seems to talk about is how many didn’t die but their lives were permanently altered by it

If you're being series then yeah you probably do have 'long' something. Almost everyone I know in the ME/CFS community got it from a virus, one even from 'just' the flu (21 at the time, 13 years ago).

Sorry for your downvotes, that's a valid concern (particularly for this far unheard-of side effects) an the true reason the list of possible long covid symptoms is so long. That list will shrink over time with research, though at this point it's safe to say it won't shrink down to nothing.

The main suspicion is that Covid rewrites your immune system memory, and sometimes permanently suppresses it from learning new diseases. So people keep getting literally the same cold over and over and can never recover from it, ever thanks to covid borking their immune memory for that one particular virus.
