"What's your favorite memory?"

Jun 18, 2022 11:49 PM

So I've decided to make this a bit of a thing. I've been able to do it on a fairly regular weekly basis so far. I'm told my knowledge pool and google-fu are decent-ish, and I believe knowledge is best when shared. Silly questions get interesting answers, hyper technical questions get an attempt at answers, and sincere questions get sincere answers, and my upvote. Remember when all is said and done, I'm here to learn just as you are, and share what I find.

FAQ Shortlist:
* The average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24.6 miles an hour. The African swallow is ~8.9 meters per second, or 20.1 miles per hour.
* 42.
* Sorry, I don't have my credit card available at the moment.
* "Why?" Why not?
* "Why not?" Because. Usually.
* "No really, why?" Because you learn a person's true nature through their curiosity.
* "How are you?" I'm alright. https://imgur.com/gallery/j9ALITD
* "What're you up to?" The obvious aside, job hunting. Generally something remote that allows me to help others instead of getting yelled at. (e.g. Customer Service)
* "(Quote from a movie)." Not a question, but that's a good reference.
* "(Quote from a movie that's a question)." (Response in movie to quote. Usually.)
* "Favorite question?" Anything that makes people stop and think, in a good way.

How do people die from cancer?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Depends on the cancer. But in essence, during cell reproduction the "copy" of a cell can be bad, and it creates more bad copies, forming 1/

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

a tumor. This tumor can affect part of the body (organs, blood flow, etc) and that can affect a person's health, until it's either 2/

removed safely, or ruptures and affects the rest of the body, which may result in death. That said, not a doc, get it checked. /3

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The Dutch.

2 things i can't stand.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Originally it hearkened back to ropes to hold the masts of Dutch ships, a "gei". The ropes were replaced with wires, and there you go.

Why does mom only remember that the kitchen exists when I'm in there?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Some mothers view their offspring as people. Others do not. I hope I'm wrong in suspecting you're in the latter group.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think my mother tries to be a good person. She's not mean, she's just forgetful. Moreso with every passing month...

What do you mix peanut butter whiskey with to make a decent drink? I don't know what to do with it, it's too nasty to drink straight.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Crème de Cacao and Coca Cola. Makes a Reese’s peanut butter cup.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Fruit soda. Grape is an easy one, but anything fruit soda based that could vaguely be a PB&J, one shot per glass.

Why does hair turn grey as you get older

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In essence, it's the hair follicles losing the ability to create the coloring of the hair, which is why it "turns" gray.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

what is the surface area of a 8 dimensional sphere with a 1 meter diameter?

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I think first we are going to need to define what the eight dimensions are, and what "sphere" means in them.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm not familiar, but I am curious to know the answer.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

@Superbob201 is correct. just math it out, you don't have to be able to visualize it.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Assuming you mean the 7-dimensional boundary, pi^4/1536 m^7

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

-1 for not solving the equation and answering in meters squared

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

First, a diameter of 1m was given. Second, the formula for an n-sphere is already solved. Third, the answer was in m^7, not m^2

I have recently realized my sense of wonderment has died. Why may that be so?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stress. You've been bombarded by so much fear, so many unknowns, that you're just trying to survive, and hope it doesn't get worse.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There is a reason why people recommend unplugging for a short time. I recommend approximately 4-6 weeks, but I know that's on the long end.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm not really sure it's stress.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If we're discussing actual causes, there are many possibilities, but it amounts to "effort +/- time = results", and violation of that.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why shouldn't I kill myself?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You've yet to see things get worse.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ultimately I believe in choice. But I've yet to meet someone that tried, and failed, that wasn't later relieved to be alive.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As someone who has tried and failed 8 years ago. I agree with this statement

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Out of spite, you cant punish the universe for creating you when you're dead.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

When I was suicidal I would often think that if I'm dead I'll never have a chance to get better. You Might as well hold out, 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

maybe you'll get better, and if not you'll die anyway when your time comes. 2/2

I'm doing a project using ~0.75" Diameter hexagon DIY concrete tiles. 1/64th" spacing, 0.25-.4" depth. Canvas is 32x40". Guess the weight :)

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hmm...I apologize, but I'm having trouble recalling the relative mass of concrete. Also, I'm not understanding how you can have 0.4" 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

depth with 0.75...ah, nevermind. 235 lbs?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 of these so not too far off!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(oops, 19.2lbs per sheet)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair. And I knew there had to be some variance in there. Good luck on the project!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(and you're totally allowed to ignore the weight of the wood backing, because it's fiberglass anyways and who the hell would think of that)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What’s your favorite Scorsese movie?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's on my list, but a glance at his filmography suggests I haven't properly seen his works yet.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’ve seen almost all of his movies. What kind of movie do you like most?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have 3 yes/no questions to determine the identity of 3 individuals who are (in no particular order) True, False, and Random. True always

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

answers truthfully, False always lies, and whether Random tells the truth or lies is random (50/50). Further, they speak a private language

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and will respond with either “ba” or “da” which mean yes or no, but you don’t know which is which. How can you determine their identities?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From the description and additional rules, three questions would not be enough to identify Rand/identify ba&da. While you could use pain 1/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh it’s possible, but complex. I certainly wasn’t capable of solving it on my own. Look up The World’s Hardest Logic Puzzle.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to identify the basic response (ba/da), you said "private language" which would need to be established....hm. Sec. 2/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Step 1: hold up knife. "Is this knife?" to all three. Confirms ba/da usage. One will provide ba, one da, third either or. Stab 2nd person 3/

Have you heard of this cool thing called Battletech? I like battletech

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am, but it's brought up the question, for me: Why wouldn't a spider's design be more practical than a two-legged mech?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck dude. I ask myself that every fucking day. I would KILL for eight legged spider mechs in BT. I love spiders
