A day in the life: Pori, Finland

Pori is a coastal town of around 80,000 people and currently the 11th largest city in Finland iirc. Not a lot happens here most of the time, but this week is that one week when something actually happens!

Good morning Imgerrr

First I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a 20-year old guy. I live on my own in a one room-apartment near downtown Pori. I'm working this year, but next year I'm off to study. I'm thinking of studying the English language or graphic design. This is the view from my bed. What you see on the table are the mascot plushies of me and my girlfriend (who currently lives 150km away). Rearranged by my lovely SO.

I usually cut through the mall on my way to work. The stores are closed, but the mall itself opens around the time I get there.

Crossing over to downtown

I have to cross kokemäenjoki on my way to work. It's a river that runs through Pori and separates northern Pori from downtown.

I mentioned earlier that this is an unusual week here, that's due to there being a famous Jazz-festival cleverly titled Pori Jazz and a political "super week" titled Suomi Areena. And yes that stands for what you think it stands for. Loads of people come here from all over Finland to see these two events. This year Suomi Areena has overshadowed Pori Jazz, but usually it has been the other way around.

The Central Church

Pori's tallest building (or maybe it's that skyscraper-ish building they built recently). I sometimes cut through the churchyard on my way to work since it's usually the less crowded way. What you also see in the picture are some cafe tents courtesy of the jazz festival.

My workplace.

This place is a sort of roof organization for multiple smaller organizations. Mostly social and healthcare. My official title is "organization secretary" which basically means that I just do everything I'm told to do as you'll soon come to see.

Off to my workstation.

This is where I work. Most of the time at my work is spent here. Designing ads, sending e-mails, browsing this here site... the usual stuff, but sometimes I get unusual assignments and I sort of like it since it breaks the monotony. Behind the window is a busy street. Sometimes a friend passes my window and teases me since most of my friends are on a vacation currently.

Speaking of unusual assignments.

Right after I took that picture I was sent off to move some garbage cans. My bosses are about to throw a party for major players in the organizational field and apparently their visions doesn't involve huge garbage cans.

Next assignment

After that episode I was sent off to retrieve a roll-up poster. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it was to ride with that. So eventually I just decided to walk back to my workplace.

This is an installation made by a docking firm from the neighboring city Rauma. Rauma and Pori are always having fierce rivalry over who's the better city. Usually the argument is settled through Icehockey, both cities have formidable teams.

I decided to eat fresh...ish

It's lunch break! I usually buy myself a snack sandwich from a supermart nextdoor, but today I decided to treat myself. It was a tough decision between chicken breast and american steakhouse, but ultimately I settled on chicken breast.

Shit...

So on my way home I broke my phone's screen and as damage control I bought a smart case. I've still got three payments for it and then I think I'm gonna buy a new one.

Who still listens to CDs?

I decided to listen to some music. A new record store was recently opened in Pori and yesterday I decided to check it out. I bought Opeth's Blackwater Park, Yes' Relayer and Mastodon's Crack the Skye. Crack the Skye was the only one that I had yet to listen to today so I popped that in. That abstract piece on the top-shelf is original artwork (do not steal plz).

Boy, I sure am eating healthy today.

Chicken nuggets and fries. Not much else to say.

What a fun sexy time for me!

Next I watched some Arrested Development. I don't have a PC because my laptop broke some months back so now I do most of my browsing on either PS3 or my phone. You can also have a look at my impressive videogame/movie collection. I do have the entire Metal Gear-franchise and all seasons of Futurama, so I've got that going for me!

Off to my friends

My friend and his fiancee came to pick me up to see their new apartment. They recently lived around 500 meters from my place, but had to move to a bigger apartment since they are about to have a baby.

Cluedo!

They had just picked up some board games from my friend's parent's place and we resurrected some memories playing them.

You sunk my battleship!

After Cluedo we played Monopoly Junior which was a hilariously awful game. Also my friends girlfriend somehow managed to get pissed off during that game (It's still Monopoly I guess. Junior or not). She eventually cooled off and came to see me and my friend play chess. I lost, but it was an incredibly tight match. After the game my friend gave me a lift home as the clock was around 11:00pm.

When I got home I took some laundry out of the washing machine that I had turned on a couple of hours earlier. After that I called my SO who was awfully quiet. We had a long serious talk about our relationship and joked around for an hour afterwards. We decided that it was a good talk, said good night and it was off to sleep for me!
