Personally I'd say it's a larger factor depending on the sport. Golf for example has tons of highly expensive equipment. Soccer they honestly say is one of the cheapest sports essential all it really takes is a ball it's why they say it's so popular wirld wide. So it'd say some sports that's truer than others however in every sport money does help.

You're absolutely right. It's the only reason I never played as a kid. My parents were grinding just to put food on the table and keep the lights on. I had used skates and a hand-me-down stick that I used with neighbor kids at the park rink after school in the winter but actually getting on a team was out of the question. I know parents that were a little better off but lived modestly so their kids could play, even doing domestic exchange programs so they could play with better teams. They>
