How do you make an International Women's day post that it is both informative AND interesting to IMGURians? I don't know, but this story has a lot going for it:

1940's version of to catch a predator - Check
Heroism - Check
Bravery - CheckSmuggling Jews to safety - Check
Punching Nazis (hell no, they killed them) - Check

In World War II (your grandma called it dubya dubya two), every occupied country had a resistance movement. These movements were run by civilians and they took any and all action they could to take their towns back.

Freddie and Truus joined the resistance movement in the Netherlands. They did all the things resistance members did:
- Distrubuted illegal newsapapers
- Took arms training
- Smuggled Jews to help them escape the NAZIs
- Learned how to use explosives and used them blow up bridges and railroads.

This however is where it gets interesting. Truus and Freddie were only 14 and 16 years old at the time and they were braver than most adults I know today. Remember the "1940's to catch a predator item above". The girls would lure NAZI's around their town by offering to go on "walks" (wink wink) in the woods. When they got to the secluded locations however what they got wasn't a little occupation pedophilia. What they got was shot, by other resistance fighters that were waiting for them. The amount of courage these young girls had to go one on with one of the world most vicious occupying forces is hard to put into words.

In 2014 they were awarded the Mobilization War Cross by Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister

Great story of heroism.

My grandpa was 16 when he enlisted as soldier for WWII. He lied about his age & said he was 17. Different age with a clear goal.

My niece has developed an interest in women resistance fighters. Is there a book about these two? Any other recommendations?

What doesn’t get improved by killing Nazis?

It's kind of sad that there are so many heroes that went through that hell that is war, only to be given a medal 70 years later :/

Honestly, it has silver linings. The renewed attention reminds people of the history that otherwise would have no current dialogue
