Not in South Carolina. South Carolina allows the governor to just straight up appoint a successor until his next election would've been. But that's this year, so the replacement will only serve until the next Congress. Still, it is South Carolina, so not exactly the ideal "flip" opportunity even without an incumbent.

B) Whomever this is still would only serve until January unless they were also elected again in November. C) We've, on multiple occasions, have hoped that a Dem could break through in KY since Beshear one. But he's really been the only one to do so or even come close.

he has no official authority to do that unfortunately. he could show up at the hospital as a visitor but i assume whoever has been assigned to make sure outsiders don't get in to see him wouldn't let that happen. as governor he is a state official and McConnell is federal so he just doesn't have the authority to do much

We’re only finding out in the last few years that much of our government stability is based on the idea that there’s some kind of unwritten agreement to follow the rules. As such, no one really put down on paper what to do when one side just stops following rules, norms, or even laws. Who enforces it? What’s the punishment? Can we make that punishment happen or can they ignore it? If they ignore it - again- who enforces it?
