I like that Imgur decided to insert ads every 6th image so you don't know where the dump ends now. Really makes me wanna buy these products.

#29 A lost of other mammals have nictitating membranes too, not just cats. Primates are the clade that most often lacks them.

#15 I wasn't supposed to eat before getting labs drawn one morning and I accidentally had cheese on the way out the door. It doesn't take much.
oldguyexlurker
#31 How is "I brought a snack." not absolutely an aspect of preparation?

#6 You're 40 seconds late.

#38 See that kind of slight rise out in the middle of the plains? Yeah. I literally drove THROUGH the Ozark "Mountains" from North to South looking for them. Didn't realize it until I got to Interstate 40. At least I NOTICED the mountains driving across Pennsylvania. (I live in the Phoenix area and play in the West. Where we have MOUNTAINS.)

#17 it makes more sense when you realize they’ve been living under food rations and probably haven’t had any proper candy in a while

#45 because what if indeed. I finally had to become a small purse girly because carrying a small house worth of supplies for years wrecked my shoulder. I'll never have a hammer, or knife, or sewing kit, or raincoat or emergency blanket or...

#38 and yet stranger still there are rivers hidden in them that predate the mountains. One in the north is older than ocean into which it empties.
PrecogFrogOnALog
The water to fill the ocean had to come from somewhere. Someone just forgot to turn off the tap when filling the pool, and now it's about to overflow.
tkalvas
Wait, aren't the Appalachians older than the Atlantic, so that all of the rivers which predate the moutains would also have to be older than the ocean.
awholelotofnothin
I have never been so accurately called out in my life and must now seek a diagnosis.
Babomonkey
Based on personal experience, you'll think about getting a diagnosis but won't get around to actually doing it.

...Well, then, just read me to filth. Accurately. Lol

Loukum ("Turkish Delight") is one of my favorite things in the world. I have had a huge variety and if you want the good stuff, you gotta either make it yourself (VERY labor-intensive) or buy it from a Middle-Eastern market. Some of the flavors you'll find for the real stuff are rose, lemon, mastic, quince, and mint. Mastic loukum is my favorite overall and is my favorite candy in the world bar none.

#4 Well, it's an old term for moonshine, so it crashing your nervous system seems appropriate
astrangehop
It was supposed to he a mixer for whisky. It's just ok
Freemage69
So, this is my cue to inform anyone who doesn't know that C S Lewis' description of Turkish Delight (eternally tempting once sampled, yet never again quite as good as the first time) matches almost perfectly with how he describes homophonic S&M in his unrelated diaries. Make of that what you will.

#45 The secret (at least from observing my wife) is to go full purseception. Cards/id go in phone case, phone case goes in tiny purse, which goes in medium purse, which goes in satchel, which goes in big reusable grocery bag, which goes in insulated grocery bag, which goes in car.
Specialty bags such as the period bag (not to be confused with the emergency period supplies already contained), the scrapbooking bag, or the kids crafts/snacks bags can be added for flavor.

#30 What's "causing autism" is this bizarre, fake-ass concept of "normal" that only exists because it makes it easier for a few rich assholes to exploit us, and by "us", I mean everybody.

#1 we have a large vase of display cookies that comes out this time of year, all real food with sprinkles etc, but it’s years old and I wouldn’t advise anyone to try one, I’ll gladly make fresh cookies if a guest wants one(secret trick, always have portioned cookie dough in the freezer)

#6 sounds about right.

Not to be that person but I believe the inter-world with the pools was referenced again in the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia. Can't remember who used it but they were trying to find their way back to Narnia by any means necessary and the Magician's Nephew (now an old man) unburied the rings they used to get there and let them use that. Of course, I also remember something about a train accident and dwarves not getting to go to Aslan's realm because they didn't believe. Story is weird, yo

Turkish Delight tastes much better if people DONT coat it in chocolate.

#3 Just call a random number in north-east of Italy - mainly in Veneto region - and ask politely for a creative blasphemy. Pay attention to your tariff plan, though: they could go on for hours, if correctly stimulated. In this case, you can store them away and have them ready in case of need.

#17 Fresh homemade bread vs sliced store loaf; shitty turkish delight vs amazing stuff.
That witch probably had the best things ever.
8gigsofshark
The good stuff is fuckin addictive. And Edmund was a WWII kid under rationing. He probably would have sold out his sibs for a ring pop.
LittleChickadee
Thank you, *that* is literally the point! He's lived his entire life under rationing and even a leather shoe topped with powdered sugar would have been enough temptation for him to sellout every single person in his family without the slightest hesitation
Knifesmith
I kind of like the crappy stuff (with some shame)[what can I say, rose flavored sugar goo...], but was gifted a box of the "good stuff", and it was an entirely different beast. It wasn't overly sweet, and was kind of like 1/2 cigarette size cylinders of pomegranate concentrate covered with a thin bark of shredded wheat like crispy bits. They were delicious in an entirely different way.
zechor
I even had turkish delight in turkey. It was way better than the stuff I had in the US, but still not sell my family out good. It wasn't even cheap waxy american chocolate good. It was just above store brand marshmallow good.
CocaineAndSelfPleasure
Someone mentioned that it was taking place during WWII. Rationing was happening and, to the kids, anything with sugar would have been glorious.
Rationalizes it a little bit at least.
zechor
absolutely, but even in the UK they had a chocolate ration
CocaineAndSelfPleasure
Those kids were privileged af too. They had some kind of sugar stashed.
But that chocolate wasn’t what we eat today though. Like, my understanding, it was more food supplementation.
Ginoawesomesauce
Ya, my mil STILL gives my kids an orange every Christmas cause she grew up in Ohio with folks still recovering from the depression and that was the best thing in the world to her. She'd get one orange on Christmas, otherwise it was mayonnaise sandwiches. So ya, actual real candy! C'mon...
ihateimgurffs
I had the "amazin stuff" it was still shit. Too sweet. Same as Baklava. I can't stand it even though people swear "you didn't have the good stuff". I did. I had it from the woman who somehow changed everyone diapers. Whoever you were she would greet you with "Oh little X, I changed your diapers, you know?" So yea, I had the best baklava. It was shit.
Totallyscrewedinaustin
Do you just not have a sweet tooth?
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
That just means it isn't your thing, it doesn't mean no one else can think it's amazing. I've had it from my Turkish neighbours and I loved it. Way better than I was expecting, honestly.
sometimesarobot
Yesss, I got mine from someone in Turkey visiting, just brought it over. Damn nice
