Umm unless you're paid by a government program, every media has always been supported by companies buying some ad space. Newspapers, magazines, radio, tv, and now social media networks, why would you think this is any different? People have to eat and buy things to live

Sure but "influencer culture" is a downgrade. I've served them in restaurants, I hate them.

Before this, only a few people who would become celebrities had access to that, now it's the main job of Idk, maybe tens of thousands of people? Sorry for your experience, I believe you, but that doesn't mean it's a downgrade for more people to have access to a job that a lot of times is self-employment and which also has its pros and cons.

Doesn’t have to be have to be but pretty much. My favorite example of someone that seems to be “doing it right” is the “snakediscovery” folks on YouTube. My little one was scared of snakes despite my best efforts to the contrary. Started her watching their videos a few years back and at this point has a pet python, claims all the snakes in our yard as “pets”, and wants to take a trip to their rescue/zoo for vacation at some point.

i think what you're describing here is a 'science educator' similar to huge if true or physicsgirl - people who talk about cool topics but are overtly not "trying to sell you a product" or "trying to help you make purchasing decisions on stuff that a company sent them for free"
