My finger has an old table saw injury (it wasn't too bad, luckily the bone was there to kick back the saw blade). I have to pull out this weird growth out every few months or it will snag on stuff. Figured there would be a few weirdos on here that might care to be distracted from political posts for a minute.

My guess of what happened is that the nail matrix (cells that grow the base of the nail) were somehow kicked back deeper into the finger

and somehow survived, and are now continuing to grow the nail, just from further in. You should probably see a doctor if you'd like to have

Wouldn't work. Once the nail bed is destroyed it won't ever be normal again. You can kill it in new and unique ways, but will never recover
