For me its 'use all these up from pure desperation to just barely survive at the beginning' followed up by keeping them on hand 'just in case' even tho by then I've got my main weapon/build set and I wreak havoc wherever I go
I Destiny 2 I have a boatload of masterworked armor in the vault just in case I run out of Ascendant Shards. I also have a bunch of sunsetted weapons I will never ever use again, but keep them for nostalgia reasons.
For me this is the 'Stuff I picked up while adventuring and don't use often enough to put on the hotbar but won't bother to sell/get rid of because there's just SO MUCH of it, so it lives here now' pack.
These almost all have practical if niche uses. Skyrim drives me nuts with its 37 types of stock healing potions (not to be confused with "health" potions). Add on user created healing potions and ER's inventory is stark skeletal in comparison.
If you equip warming stones and then summon the mimic tear, your mimic will scatter them occasionally for free heals, and it won't count as consuming them
Haven't played this game but... *glances at Wrath of the Righteous inventory full of scrolls and potions* I get the sentiment. *reminisces about FF6 megalixirs* I really do.
At least in FF6 and such death means returning to a save file where you haven't used the magelixir. In Souls-style games death means trying again, but you don't get the consumables back. A real treat for consumables that only exist in highly limited numbers.
The damage scales really aggressively with strength/dex, so they're pretty underwhelming right off the bat, but you can do some serious damage with them later on (except by that point, you usually have better options). They come out fast though, so when you factor dps they become way more impressive. Even the item description says they're more to be used for corralling/restricting enemy movement than they are intended to be a main source of damage. Does a ton of poise damage too
Except kukris are there and kukris are amazing. Throwing items were actually good in this game. If people don't use them it's not because they're not useful, but because the player is not open to experimentation.
I have no idea what game this is from but I get it. I did start hoarding bright blooms early on when playing TotK and oh boy did that turn out to be the right thing to do lmoa
Similar thing here with Amalur. Get your Alchemy skill up there and you pretty much always get reagents from plants, then your Spot Hidden so they show in the mini-map and it hardly takes any time to harvest so I have all kind of them and can I make more potions than I'll ever need. That's the part that takes time, though.
Yeah, that really shit me. Knives, darts, sure; ranged options for a melee character and lets you keep poison and bleed pressure up. Some of the pots are okay if a little niche; they don't scale super well but at least the fire element is readily available. But the elemental stuff that costs FP also always scales with the stat for similar weapons and spells. There's no point; mages can just cast a spell and physical only players don't get scaling. And don't get me started on the greases...
Bubble pops (pvp) and drawing aggro, and a safe way to last tap mostly. Pots specifically arnt mentioned here because they're actually strong in general combat
I didn't use them on my first playthrough much, but when I played the game through in first person (requires a mod, but it was a fuckin' GREAT time) throwing knives and jars were pretty essential pieces of my kit. Great for hitting an enemy in the face and causing a stagger, harassing a backliner trying to get ranged hits in on me, or safely finishing off an enemy that had been left almost dead by an attack. Fuuuuck I should play that game through in first person again, it was so good
Currently in a bow-only playthrough because my other characters' data got corrupted. Bows feel under rated but get boring so fast I'm already switching to magic just so my fingers don't fall off trying to plink away at late game enemies with a bow.
AxelBeingCivil
Hell no, I sold all that stuff whenever I was doing weapon upgrades. It's basically a cheap cash reserve.
MisterLemons
Nuka cola quantum.
HappyTimeHollis
My Masterball in Pokemon Go - will most likely never be used, lol.
TheGlow
Supposedly crystal darts wreck those cat/dog catacomb statues. Makes em aggro each other I believe.
CyborgScribe
I used throwing knives constantly to pull enemies to better fighting areas. Just keep coming big guy *thwak* a little closer *thwak*
BigIdeas
I did use throwing knives in a lot of the souls games. They were a very safe way to confirm kills on enemies with only a sliver of health left.
Varindran
Just be a faith user and you never use any of that.
UnknownParticipant67
not a single printer cable in sight...
MrSmilingDeath
Throwing knives are perfect for drawing aggro on bosses. I always run out because of that.
thseamonsters
Fuck you, I threw Kukri like I was in an anime
thatsmyfetish69
I just sold the contents of my Reagent bank tab in WoW. Made 200K gold
AnOceanOfStars
If it's consumable, I don't consume it.

It's not hoarding items, it's collecting trophies of our adventure!

Crystal darts can be used to make the gollum constructs hostile to their own allies, so make sure you use them whenever you can.
MurdockTheHawk

snrsquishy101
Now THAT is broken lmao mimic tear OP
SlyMrFox
Did this in Quest 64. There's a bug if you have too many items where the game corrupts. Always happened to me when I got the item from your dead dad.

Megalixer syndrome
Eomund521
Saving for never use. I never used throwing weapons once. In all 5 playthroughs. Hmmmmm. All throwing weapon and archery build......
BofusTeefus
Yep.

I hoard items in every RPG, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgU4Oum8SLg

Alfadorfox
That's true. I haven't played as much in those style of games where you can't just reload a save.
BoogaYooga
My weakness is unique non-usable not-wearable items that have no purpose other than being sold.
HighrockTendales
The day I started enjoying RPGs was the day I stopped hoarding shit. Throw that shit away and enjoy the game unencumbered!
InfocalypseRising
In this case it was more "I genuinely can't think of a reason to use 99% of this stuff" (i did use the poisoned knives a few times)
BarbedWireCatheter
“Oh cool, a knife!” *chucks it at the first guy I see, it does 1/100000000 of his health. “Oh cool, an inventory clogger”
TIREDGANG

Crystal darts or whatever could break golems which was fun.
BHPaperstacks
When you have to fight dual Erdtree watchdog cat things if you throw a few Chrystal darts at them they frenzy and start attacking each other.

I feel attacked

But not by any of that stuff.

Cross the fog, to the Lands Between. To stand before the Elden Ring!

QuickLighting53
Why? I ended up selling them often.
Soberyn
The Depths lol. I shot blight blooms everywhere to explore. Like A LOT.
delecti
Only shot? It saves so many arrows to throw them or drop them while gliding around.
Soberyn
Wait.
Soberyn
You can DROP stuff?? Lmao
MeekrabJones
Normally, yes. But in the case of Elden Ring, it was more of a "why bother with throwing items when magic is already broken" starter pack.
blumpk1npie
It was my first souls game and I'd say it was hard af with magic until the last bit which was super easy (except malenia and elden beast)
AskaAsh
It wasn't broken. It was valid.
micotyro
Crafting in that game is definitely tacked on. Good game but I do have thoughts about it
PorneliusHubertII
I do bleed builds to kukris are awesome.
PhoenyxStar
The crystal stuff especially. "Oh Cool, a 'spell' I can toss without usi— ... Fucking seriously? *Why*?"

Fan knives are very useful
BigOrangeCats
Because it’s fast as fuck. I did a level 1 playthrough and throwing knives are ridiculous, especially once you start doing DoT effects.
Blud4BludGod

I may have done several whole boss fights with nothing but kukris and poison darts.
suiseiseki
I found those tiny guys with the bleed knives early on and discovered very quickly you can evaporate other players with a few knife tosses.

This is for DS2 but it's still gold https://youtu.be/FigIAAYHoW8
suiseiseki
DS2 is the best of the entire souls series and I will politely ignore anyone that disagrees.
