OK, I’ll admit to thinking this one is a little weird, but whatever

Whenever I brew tea or dye to make things for my shop I imagine that I’m an old forest crone mixing potions.
Your turn, Imgur! How do *you* add whimsy to your life?

Making silly noises with the empty tube is an essential part of the process of changing the toilet paper and paper towel rolls.

When I order takeout, I don't normally have any special instructions so I like to just put "You're the best!" or "Have an awesome day" or "Thanks so much" if they have a form field for it.

I put pretty clothes on, especially to bake or run errands, but also to clean and sometimes I wear my fancy clothes just to lounge

I work in residential construction, typically attics, and wherever I bump my head more than twice I write "Hit head here!"

#2 The biggest French music export right now is Gojira (you may have seen them in the 2024 olympic games opening.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hTMYk7orHw. Not too sure how romantic you think it is in the end...

I will often stick my arms out, particularly while it is windy, and walk a weaving path pretending I'm a bird cruising on the thermals.

#7 I remember explaining the nuances of Manchester City v Liverpool to my cat once. He looked interested but think he was just being polite.

2 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I used to teach my cat calculus. She is 17 now and could probably pass an age appropriate math test.

After I park my car and I'm about to walk away from it, I'll point back and say 'stay, good girl'

2 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Sometimes I'll say "everyone remember where we parked" a la Star Trek.

If I drop something, I yell "GRAVITY CHECK" and when it lands I go "Yep, still working."

2 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

My son did this quite often as a baby. He did a thorough testing of gravity and made sure multiple times a day that gravity, was in fact, still working. haha

When I'm walking around and pretty sure nobody can see me I sometimes walk like a robot.

When I pass trees while I’m on a walk, I tell them how beautiful they are and how well they’re tree-ing.

#17 nothing wrong with being weird.

Is sad if you know anything about racoons and why a bunch of their young would be road kill. Id use a spoiler tag but that doesn't exist in comment/tags. So It will be in the replies if you want to ruin your day.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Baby racoons are incredibly reliant on their mothers (this is kinda true for all mammals with litters really.) When momma gets hit by a car crossing the road before they are not big enough to understand/be on their own they get confused and linger around her body for days waiting until something kills them. In this specific instance it would be random cars passing by mama's body. So have fun knowing that grim reality of our bleak dying world I guess?

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While thats a sad shame, if it makes yall feel better, raccoons are a bunch of thieving degenerate assholes ( calm down it was mostly /s ) ((or is it s/ ? I can never remember)) ((( internet is my second language)))

Sometimes I find a small bill in a pocket or wherever and instead of spending it I'll hide it again; I'll eventually forget and then 'discover' it again. For one, it's always nice to find money and on the otherhand it's nice to play hide-and-go seek with myself. 20+ years.

Whenever I choke on water down the wrong pipe, I always say "nope, still can't breathe water"

2 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I always say "turns out that goes better down the other tube."

When I was still able to walk, hubby and I used to go for long walks in the woods. And everytime we came across a fallen tree on our way, we would yell "adventure time!" and make a really big deal out of crossing that tree. We would also hold hands and sing "We´re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz..." while walking.

When I pick up the phone and no one is there or it hangs up right away I just say "Fine, didn't want to talk to you anyway!" haha

2 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well, so far I haven't killed myself. That seems pretty whimsical to me right now.

I'm a feminine lady and I always say "ladies first" when more than just me is walking through a door. Ladies tend to giggle about it and then I feel cool and funny

I like to explain the modern world to a time traveler from around 200 years ago in my head. Everything from tech to the history of stuff since and politics, taking into account what a well-educated person from that era would already know. It's a thing I've been doing since I was around 10 or 11 years old to calm myself down.

this is great to hold back the invasive thoughts, ty!

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think this is info dumping, just internally. I do this too and recently found out I am autistic.

I remember being so excited to have kids so i could teach them things, and I would mentally practice answering the same question to a child of various ages. I was so thrilled when my son finally asked me why the light changes with the seasons. I drew a diagram.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

when I drop something, or I'm reffing youth soccer games when kids randomly trip themselves while running, I say "that's just excess gravity"

2 days ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Like Alf when he was asked "how did that happen?!?" after he threw a baseball through a window. His reply was "Isn't that obvious!? GRAVITY FAILURE!"

In a similar vein to #11, I once read a comment from a mom that did "Cinderella Sundays", where she and her little girls would clean all morning, then put on their princess dresses, have a fancy candlelit dinner and a dance party "ball" afterward.

2 days ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

That’s adorable, and a really smart way to normalize chores and cleaning as part of a routine. All around genius.

I have incredibly invasive negative self think. I cannot form a free thought or moment of peace when not focused on a task or other idea. ITs immediate and I've been in years of thearpy trying to fix it.

So #5 instructions clear. Now I have a 40k Ork Warboss shouting at me every time I have a chance to think to put me down....so I guess thanks for that?

2 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

be sure to give it a silly name so that yous can say "[warboss] says..." because he's talking out loud to himself -not you!

My wife has cancer and sometimes her hands stop working out of the blue. It usually happens when she's holding something, a dinner plate, her tablet, a cup of tea. When what-ever-it-is hits the floor, we both look at each other and say, "Perfect!" and laugh together as I clean it up.

2 days ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

I always say hello and talk to rabbits and squirrels when I see them.

In their language.

It's a really old superstition in my country to always greet magpies politely (not really known or practiced anymore), since they may be a wizard or witch in disguise. I always nod and say good morning/day/evening to all animals I meet. Not because I believe that they are humans in animal form, but because acknowledging them and moving on peacefully seems to put them at ease, so it's an investment for me to be able to just sit and enjoy nature without causing any concern at all when I want!

My corner of the world calls it "percussive maintenance" (beat it like a drum until it starts working again)

#17 Taxidermy is completely normal and wholesome stuff all around

2 days ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

#17 is Jenny Lawson, and she's my fucking hero.

She was one of the very first people I saw online being totally open about her struggles with mental health, and she's absolutely hilarious too. She coined the phrase "furiously happy"; gist is sometimes depression keeps you down for days/weeks/months, but then it lifts. And even though you know it'll come back, you spend every moment kicking sand in depression's face by being as intentionally happy as possible. (1/2)

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(2/2) I don't have her flair for words, but everything in OPs thread is a perfect example. Wear a fancy ball gown to a normal dinner out. Collect odd trinkets that serve no purpose but to make you smile. Be silly and dance and claw back every second of happiness you can.

Her blog is amazing, but she has a couple of books and she's narrated the audiobook versions, and I'd highly recommend those too!

Omfg Taxidermy!!! Yes definitely.... Taxidermy.

If I drop something I say aloud "Just put that anywhere" and then I laugh at myself. I don't get upset I just clean it up and move on with my life.

2 days ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 3

my coworker used to say when she dropped food: "better on the ground than mouth of godless" haha

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandma and mom used to say that, and my friends from Helsinki were horrified when I, without thinking, said it after one of them spilled some beer.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For us its "Dump that down. Oh, you already did. Great!"

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When I drop something I say “yup, gravity still works”

2 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Shit, I think I'm going to steal that one. Spilled a drink in a bar the other day and the Karaoke guy stopped singing in the middle of his song and said "I saw that!" This would've been a great response

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm partial to "Just hang that up right there" whenever something get's droped.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I always say "that lives there now!" when i drop something

Allow me to introduce you to the art of Kintsugi. Taking broken things like ceramic bowls and vases and fixing the break with gold epoxy. Continuing the life of the object as well as displaying the break as a talking point about the piece and not something to be hidden away.

When I drop something I say “ahhh!” In a tiny voice that’s an octave higher than my normal voice.

I have a number of whimsical quirks because life is dreary and magic hasn’t been made illegal yet.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When I drop something on the floor or ground, I'll say, "I'm just gonna put that there for a moment"

2 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I scold what I dropped. “Fine. You can stay down there if you’re going to throw a tantrum. I’ll clean you up when you’ve decided to act right.”

I look for female musicians I don't know, new songs, add some old faves, and burn at least 1 mix CD every month, which I play in my car while pretending I am running a pirate radio station just for ladies.

2 days ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That's fucking cool

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why do the musicians need to be female?

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While trained instrumentalists and musicians are split evenly, male and female, 50/50, the music industry is male dominated with 95% male instrumentalists to only 5% female instrumentalists. Even female vocalists only account for 20-30% of the top 800 songs, year over year

The VAST majority of female written and produced records start and remain under indie labels because major labels won't sign female musicians unless they are backed by things like Disney. On YouTube, you will see songs that are freaking great, but never get radio play and that struggle because they are doubly stigmatized for being indie and female-led. So I like to find some of those great artists who deserve massive popularity and buy their music.

I just got back tonight from a concert with Beach Bunny and the headliner the Beths. Freaking fantastic, both of them. Just amazing live. Both have been included in my last 5 CDs, and I never would have found them if I weren't consciously trying to find new artists. Songs they played tonight. https://youtu.be/qr">5x1D8mE">https://youtu.be/qrQ65x1D8mE https://youtu.be/tRKwjduRzZI
