My theory is the opposite. The car didn't see him till he put the vest on then turned to its natural predator instincts. Also walk around a warehouse in a high vis nobody notices, do it without one and everybody will see you and tell you that you need a vest
not sure why the corvette stopped and stopped so late, but that was not the cause of the accident. something happened in the far lane that caused the semi to slow. the suburban was rear ended by the truck pulling the trailer.
It looks kinda like there might be a roadside check or accident going on here or further up. I hit a car in a stop like this in April cause traffic piled up for another wreck further up just over a little rise.
Truck was following way too close with too big a load. You can see the trailer start to jackknife right before the collision. No idea why other things are stopping, but that truck is to blame.
It's possible that the reason the cammer had stopped as well as the red car was that there was an accident ahead, which also explains why the truck and other traffic were slowing down.
The turn signal is on for the entirety of the video. The truck that wrecked was two lanes away. This isn’t on the car that pulled over at all (given the video we saw)
There's a superduty type truck that doesn't slow at all and rear ends the SUV into shot. Note the SUV has no front damage when it arrives. All other traffic was slowing apart from that large truck.
There's a Texas license plate and I don't see a gun (or utility belt in general) on the person putting on the vest, so I don't think they're a cop. The SUV that loses control is in the middle lane prior to that. Either it's on the SUV driver, or someone hit them and knocked them out of control.
I do agree that probably didnt help the situation, the one behind the truck so the car behind the red one break, he also break, making the one behind it that was way too close crash into it. While the one behind the truck had good awarness, he didnt account for the one coming fast just behind him. Accident usually happens do to a combination of factors, this was one of them

My rule of thumb is breaking distance times two (time depends on speed) for blinkers and not to slow down until I'm out of the driving lane.
