My city voted on and passed a no alcohol at the beach law, and most people who voted in favor to get drunkards off the beach. But I voted on it to stop litter. It's been SO much cleaner at beaches since the law passed.

It's not about littering per se. Littering sucks no matter the material. This is more about risk mitigation. You could pack out more than you pack in, but you can still have an accident and break a bottle. Cleaning up glass fragments is extremely difficult, even if you intend to be thorough. If you don't bring glass there's no risk of breaking it.

I personally hate getting glass fragments in my feet at the beach. Accidents happen, broken glass is pretty difficult to be completely clean up, even with the best of intentions. Glass is amazing, but certain situations call for special considerations

Idk, I've been doing beaches with glass for over a decade now very regularly and I've literally never broken a bottle.
I'm pretty sure the glass shards you're getting in your feet are from jackasses shattering bottles and not from people responsibly using glass on the beach

I'm going to argue that bringing glass to the beach is inherently irresponsible. Again, if it does break you can't be certain it's been cleaned up completely. Accidents happen, especially for situations involving alcohol consumption. Pools are also places where glass doesn't belong for similar reasons. I typically prefer my drinks in glass for a variety of reasons, but I'm not going to be selfish when there's reasons to override my preference.

Yes but you have to understand that the Japanese find littering socially unacceptable and they do a pretty good job of cleaning up their own mess, as opposed to most of the rest of the world. If this was to work anywhere without issues it would be there.

For any other country, sure, no glass on the beach. But because it's Japan, if the bottle breaks, they will clean it before leaving. Absolutely no risk there.

On the surface that's been baking in the hot sun, sure. Dig down a few inches and the sand is actually pretty cool. Digging a small hole to bury a cooler in is a popular method of helping the ice last longer.

Where I lived in Cali, the city would regularly run a tractor over the beach that pulled a massive magnet behind it, to pick up all the god damn nails that were in the pallets.

Skip metal too, please. Easier to pick up and see, but the number of times I've had to pick up and throw away cans and bottles crumpled into jagged edges that are actually dangerous to step on at playgrounds, beaches, and parks is kind of annoying. At least you can't shatter metal.
