This was also on reddit, someone knew who she was. She's Skye Goode and has a youtube channel where she's releasing bobcats from her traps because she sells bear fur, so bobcats are useless to her

There are padded leg-hold traps designed to prevent injuries. Fur poachers use them, but not out of concern for the animal's wellbeing but to avoid the fur being damaged.
I mean, not just poachers. Those are used for licensed fur trappers and nuisance trappers who are both operating legally. The padding is legally required. The paw isn't a big deal in commercial pelt sales, toe beans don't go in a coat so the useful part stops at the ankle. It's padded to prevent damage to bycatch, specifically domestic animals. At least in NY aquatic traps (for beaver and muskrat) can be fatal but land traps must allow for safe release.
Same as poachers to me. It always amazes me what is still legal in the US, but just like Zimmerman and Rittenhouse are murderers no matter what US law says, a poacher is a poacher. Being trapped is a horrible experience for animals, who will break their bones or chew through them in order to get free. Even if they just sit there panicking, trembling and freezing until someone comes to free or kill them, it's still animal cruelty. This is why poachers need to be shot on sight.
