insurance company's will do all they can not to pay out people its how they work in dec 2019 to jan 2020 we had bad fire were i live in Aus and there are still people that are homeless waiting for insurance pay outs over 3 and 1/2 years later, I lost everything i owned in a fire about 17 years ago and insurance refused to pay me a brown cent. Its hard to get back on your feet again but such is life

Finally got in contact with one of my friends who lives in Lahaina. Her apt is completely gone she was lucky and was at the grocery store with her S.O and her daughter, but her dog was at home. It's so horrible the whole situation. So many people are displaced, so many of the places that I used to walk with good friends, gone.

She is considered passionate and capricious. There are a lot of stories (we call mo’olelo) about Pele traveling in disguise, then either out of jealousy or anger she destroys the land with fire.

I saw a woman on Tiktok comment about how she was upset she was supposed to get married on the island in a few days as if people didn’t just drown because they were throwing themselves into the ocean to avoid the fires. It’s sickening how detached some people are from humanity.

Watched a doco on the camp/paradise fire, I'm from Aus and have seen a few bush fires about 17 years ago I lost everything I owned in a fire its heart breaking but at least I didn't lose my family. We had bad fires here just before covid hit and there are still people that are homeless from January 2020 bush fires living in caravan parks and camp grounds still waiting for insurance to pay them out

Yeah, same. Our house (Roseville area) had a bad water pipe break and flood a few months after the fires, and we were put up in a nice hotel by insurance for almost a year during the reconstruction. Our house had numerous delays due to contractors and materials being unavailable, and many Paradise victims were in the hotel with us. I got to know some of them, and visited Paradise and Oroville with one couple. "Traumatic" doesn't begin to describe it.

I know we've seen the horrible ugliness humans are caplable of, but it's really unfair to take a "happy to let humanity die" stance, when the first people to get affected are those in poverty and third world countries. They have done the least to contribute to climate change and are the first to feel the awful consequences. Also, it's always better to try and lessen the total damage, and correct the situation as much as possible. More species may survive, even if we can't 100% solve the issues

Torn between pride that he sees it and sadness of his reality, also guilt that I brought him here to experience this.
