Japan is different

Still not as hardcore as the way Germans learn forklift safety.

This explains a lot.

the only problem with these is they are staged so that people walk away. they need to be staged, difficult i know, so that people need to be carried off.

Easily less horrid that the Death on the Highway videos from the US. My question though is 'Do you have a drift class as well?'

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It reminds me of the scene from the movie” don’t be a menace..” where he becomes a crash test dummy

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some things you just can't sugar coat. Getting hit by a car may kill you, with rare exception everyone has one of two sets of bits, and working hard is absolutely required to succeed at something... You can't hide from reality.

For a kid, that's the next closest thing to reaching up and touch a hot stove.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

teaching kids consequences... what a novel idea!

show a group of kids a person being killed/crippled and they will learn a lifelong lesson from it.

When I was a kid -- back in the Sixties -- I remember a *particularly effective* ad. There was a guy sitting behind the wheel, and he's complaining: "I don't use seatbelts -- they're **too confining**." Cut to the same guy in a wheelchair... *effective for me*!

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but how can they isekai if they don't jump in front of that truck...

Truck-kun is a doorway to an alternative existence, that's for sure.

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

not real enugh. show the kids some blood and guts of what happens when you FA

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah some of the stunts make it seem like you can apparently just roll of the windshield and land super-hero style.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I taught in a small rural school system in Japan. They didn't get these kinds of resources; instead, we had a couple of guys from the village hall come and drop tofu on the pavement, then place another tofu block in a bike helmet and drop that, to illustrate how helmets protect your brain.

3 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That's clever. I might do that for my kiddos. Thanks for sharing!

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you do, use firm tofu. They didn't, and both kind of splattered everywhere. Also maybe put the tofu in ziplocks to avoid a mess in general.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Maybe in technical situations cus the social bit is all formally cold politeness unless youre dealing with subculture types like gyaru/gyaru-o- or the other westernized subcultures like the vatos or rockabillies. But ya ave citizen will walk hurriedly by as ya cry in the street cus that much emotion publicly is too much.

And stay off your phone on the subway unless its just listening to stuff via earphones.

Could do without their toxic work habits, sexualization of minors and rampant misogyny.

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not to mention the sheer amount of unreported homelessness and their weeeeird celebration of the prison system (like, festivals with merch kinda celebration). This is the same system that lone elderly folks end up using to keep off the streets because they have no safety net or family to rely on. And the justice system is... weirdly worse than the US in terms of convictions. For them, if you're in cuffs, you're guilty and they will go to lengths to make you confess, no pretense of innocence.

About a decade ago there was a crisis in the Japanese comedy circles, because their escalating dangerous stunts were making it impossible to insure them. This was at the same time one of them ran through a komodo dragon enclosure with meat tied to their legs

Hilarious.

Bro...

3 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

They can't even do those stunts where real people go over the hood with SUVs or consumer trucks, they're too tall and you eat the full impact instead of going over, it's the reason that pedestrian deaths are way up over the last 15 years. Be careful out there folks and maybe think about others' safety when you're next replacing your car.

3 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Super interesting fact! Thanks for passing it along.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That training only works because Japanese society actually places value on not inconveniencing other members. Wouldn't work in a "Me first" society like urban America; it would just give them new ideas to fuck with others.

Actually, the gif is from "Zombie Land SAGA." She didn't get isekai'd, she woke up as a zombie. Who was then required to become the leader of an idol group of other zombie girls.

It's a fun show. I'm looking forward to the third season/movie.

She woke up as a zombie and became the leader of an idol zombie group.... Anime literally has everything 😂

If you look at all the different years the idols come from it does lead to the question of "how far into the future do you have to be sent for it to count as isekai?".

The real lesson here should be that cars are insanely dangerous and have no part in a sane city-scape.

3 days ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Slight disagree. IMO cars should have a limited and exceptional part in a sane city-scape. But yeah definitely not the universal and normal part they tend to have today

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agree. All goods should just be airdropped into the city in large multi-tonne containers, and pray the parachutes made by the lowest bidder work.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Do you think goods are delivered to cities in...cars?

3 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Where do you live if there are rails or canals to every corner grocery store in the city?

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Not my fault you made your example about delivering shipping crates, a thing cars don't do.

3 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What is a truck other than a really big car?

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

If a car is to dangerous a several ton delivery truck would be a weapon of mass destruction by comparison.

Unless you've got unbreakable TP that's not nearly enough to clean your bum. However, knowing Japan, they've got fancy toilets and water jets to get yourself clean. The rest is just drying. And even though western style sit down toilets are more common. The squat pot is still the best way to expel your bowels. As it's the natural position we're meant to be using biologically. The sit down method causes so many health issues.

If someone put poop on your hand, would you wash it with water or a napkin?
So why do you walk around with stank ass all day long?

3 days ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

Ok, but I don't eat food with my asshole. It does not need to be as perfectly clean as your hands which touch food and your face often.

3 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Once you wafflestomp in the shower, you'll question why you even bought a toilet and bidet in the first place

3 days ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Once you... what?

3 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

wikiHow

3 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

These are appropriate ways cause they also clean said hands/feet since you are in the shower.

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One square? That sheet would be ruined two wipes in. Just get another square and keep the hands cleaner. I'm sure they can spare a square or two. But this is also great and the only reason it's not happening in the US is because of puritan sensibilities about the body.

3 days ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 3

Almost every japanese toilet is a bidet now hence less tissue used in the learning.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Japanese, generally, have a significantly healthier diet than the majority of Western countries.

3 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

3 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also, my kids knew how to wipe their asses long before they went to school.

3 days ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

3 days ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

i think the problem less how inexcusably surprised people are about doing something different from themselves and more that we as a species seem vastly more interested in stupid surveys and clickbait than getting to the... bottom... of this issue with objective scientific evidence.

yes, bidet is the "right" answer, but that's not viable when you're in the woods, so i think the question is still worth answering

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never seen it as a problem, but rather a fascinating bit of anthropology. As for bidets, they can be great; they can also scold your ass if you are not careful.

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some guy on imgur a while back said he wiped from the front while sitting and many were like ???????

What kind of pancake ass stands while wiping?

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Here's Japan, bro
Where you going to sit???

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

approximately 3.6 billion people stand up while wiping, while the other 4.8 billion or thereabouts sit down while wiping. There are many reasons to pick either position, it is entirely individual to the person.

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

WTF. Who the hell sits while wiping?

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Who the hell stands? Why would you stand? I am so confused. Also, get a bidet.

3 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm a 150lb white AFAB, and I wipe sitting down. Gotta lean forward and spread the cheeks for best wipe access!

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apparently, if you are obese it is easier sitting down.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OHHHHHHH. This makes more sense. I'm 110 lbs. I don't have any reason to stand. But I could see it being a struggle for someone bigger, I guess.

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even when I was underweight I sat to wipe. Maybe it's different for women who tend to have more butt than men?

3 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please tell me you forgot the “/s” at the end of your post. lol

3 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would argue the standing squat is the best. You're off the toilet, so you aren't constrained by space and don't have to have your hand anywhere near the inside of a toilet. Your ass hovers over the toilet, so no risk of droppage. And you're squatting, so the cheeks are still spread for maximum coverage. It's perfect! Assuming you have the leg strength anyhow.
