A fun game: leave this there for a few months until they get used it and walk on it willingly, then replace it with a real hole. (Make sure to get a video)

I had a cat a long time ago that would flop down in the kitchen and flail about. It took me way longer than I should admit before realizing he was trying to play with the brown spots on the linoleum.

Many cats would react like this to any new/unexpected mat at the doorway even if were a solid color.

And may avoid it because of the feels of it.

My cat got really cautious when I removed a bucket that had been next to the door from a few weeks.

Yeah, the spookings started the moment they saw the corner.

Why would anyone think a picture of a hole on the ground would be startling to a pet?

Well, Bugs Bunny cartoons used to throw a black circle on a wall or floor & go thru it.... So, there's that...

Well it's a visual illusion. Presumably the one recording it expected that. I think it would be startling to many humans, so I'd probably guess a pet would react too.

Why would anyone film their cats exiting a room?
