If it makes you feel any better, humanity has been causing mass genocide to the chicken race since time out of mind, but the quality of care has gone up immensely in the last century. It's still not a pretty picture (it's farming and butchering) but it is highly regulated by people that care.

I hate the bags but I also accept they gotta do what they gotta do for costs and whatnot. Especially since it's just a bit more mild inconvenience for me to get and throw the bird carcass in/out of the bag by a bit. Which for $5 I'm still willing to commit to.

It's also considerable inconvenience for the employees. It was really, REALLY easy to simply slide them off the skewer into the clamshell trays. Now they have to mess with tongs and trying to hold them without crushing them and trying to hold the bag open at the same time.

I actually like the bags more. Aside from the less plastic use, they tend to not leak on me as much if they accidentally go sideways, unlike the old containers, which would spill juice everywhere

I use the carcass and drippings to make stock. The bag is super convenient because I just throw the carcass in there with vegetable ends/peels and it stores well in the freezer until I'm ready to make the stock.

IF you want to do something about it, run a TNR effort(Trap neuter/spay Release). Depending on your local laws you can often do a TNR program on any property you have permission to be on, and are not liable for spay/neutering someone's cat. Local laws vary so make sure to familiarize yourself on them. Local governments and organizations will often offer vouchers for TNR appointments. You would need to keep the cats overnight in a climate controlled spot, usually a garage, as the anesthesia 1/2
