As a non-pet-owner, is it really OK to give dogs & cats "people food" in large quantities like this? I mean, sure, the roast turkey meat is probably fine, but the other stuff? And such a large serving?
Yes, it's generally safe for this one meal. Rice, legumes and sweet potato are common additive foods in a lot of dog and cat foods. legumes and sweet potato are notably common in the "high protein" diet foods. Probably not a good idea to feed them this much every day for every meal (best quantity depends on the animal and its needs, of course), but the foods themselves, on the whole, are fine.
dogs can successfully eat more variety of things than a human including rotten and uncooked meat. the poop consistency is variable. there is no such thing as people food.
unless you have some special breeds with food sensitivities, and if you personally have a diversely omnivorous but still high-protein diet, honestly a lot of people food is a helluva lot better for dogs than your average bag of kibble. dogs are evolutionarily speaking scavenger predators who got used to a wide-ranging and opportunistic diet. watch your sodium levels and skip allium family entirely, but otherwise generally feel free to feed them any you'd consider part of a healthy meal
While true (fresh food is better for dogs overall if it's made right, just bc anything with less preservatives and filler in it is gonna be better for them), the restrictions on what's allowed in dog food are stricter than the ones for what's allowed in our food lol - at least in the UK, anyway. IDK about the USA.
sure restrictions about additives, i could totally believe that the EU and/or UK has figured out a way to make miles of red tape in this regard, but restriction on additives isn't the same thing as demanding a wide range of ingredients, and de facto people end up deciding on a brand and sticking with it for life, meaning the average dog ends up eating the same meal some 7000+ times in their life. i'm not tryna be preachy here just because i serve my dog fresh food, but diversity is great

Looks to me like unseasoned meat and pretty ordinary cooked vegetables. They were probably more 'soft-serve' than usual but I very much doubt any were actually ill as a result.

With food like this, that even looks to have been prepared with their stomachs in mind (white meat, plain veggies, no butter or grease and what looks like a sloghtly different plate for each dog so probably taking any specific needs into account too) I don't think it's a concern.
