People want politics to produce solutions to real life problems. A solid social security that is dependable. An unemployment insurance that pays you 80% for 12 months. 4 weeks paid holidays by law for every employee. And of course clean water as a prerequisit. Free education by high salary teachers. This is possible by taxing companies, reversing tax exemptions and cutting military spending.
Establishment Democrats have lost the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Supreme Court. So, why would we want to keep doing that?
The center and right have effectively annihilated the meaning of "far left" by referring to everyone more liberal than George W. Bush as a radical far-left Marxist socialist communist for the last 30 years.
It must be very convenient when you don't give a shit about words meaning things.
This dumbass article brought to you by the corrupt, "moderate" piece of shit sex pest who lost in the primary to a leftist, then ran again as an independent and lost again to the same leftist, and that leftist went on to become the most popular mayor in modern history.
Right? It's like "Why the Left shouldn't come up with candidates that win against ME!!!". I first thought that article was from his journalist brother, but turns out, it's him personally. LOL.
And so far Mamdani is literally the best example of why Democrats should embrace the left. Imagine looking at your own city dramatically improve after you got humiliated in an election and going "we should resist this"
I wouldn't say ANYONE but the fact that it was written by dick cheese himself is quite the joke. "I got voted out for being a piece of shit. Let me tell you why what you voted for is wrong bc im a piece of shit"
This chart has been making the rounds again and people are freaking the fuck out about it. It's not perfect, but for a high school level of discourse, it's pretty solid.
Radical extremist communist Bernie Sanders is objectively a centrist, advocating for spending taxes collected on existing government programs instead of corporate handouts.
There's at least one user here who insists that only moderate corpo dems can win general elections. Watching their head explode will be the cherry if Al-Sayed goes to the senate.
It's going to be location specific. There are some places where only the moderate dems have a real chance of winning and other places where progressive dems can win big. Being a true swing state and not an already bluish state, Michigan makes a good benchmark at where progressives are at nationally. A win would be a great sign, a bad loss would be a terrible sign, and a narrow loss would be disappointing but not discouraging because it would show they're on the right track.
As someone who lives in Michigan, my gut currently says Rogers flips the seat. This is based of the fact he wasn't really challenged in the primaries, so he already has his party unified behind him, and Al-Sayed doesn't have that luxury. That gives Rogers a starting advantage. He can concentrate on the independent types. We'll have a much better sense at how well Al-Sayed can unify his own party within a few weeks. Then the gut may change.
So if the current Dem power structure remains in place, what the fuck would change? Nothing. Nothing at all. Once again, as has been the case all of my life, the democrats fight their own party and their voters, telling them they know what is best and do fuck all. Don't get me wrong, when it came time to vote for POTUS I squared up and voted for Hillary, Biden and Kamala against the asshole, but we won't move forward the way we are.
There aren't many candidates advocating socialist policies, numbnuts. And also, in actual elections, factors other than policy tend to weigh more heavily.
Fuck that. There's no "independent voters" in this country anymore. There's only people who side with the fucking fascist GOP and people who will drag this country kicking and screaming towards progress if we have to, and if you're not the latter then you can absolutely, 100%, without any hesitation or remorse get absolutely fucked. This fucking authoritarian oligarchy bullshit must and will end.
45% of Americans identify as independent. You need their vote. Currently the GOP are doing Red Scare 2.0. What are the Democrats doing? Most of them seem to be doing nothing. The only ones who seem to be doing anything seem to be going farther and farther left. This is not a good response to Red Scare 2.0. You're just giving the GOP more to work with. Currently Trump and the GOP are tanking, but if you push independents away, you're looking at 4+ years of Vance/Rubio in 2028.
You know who else is doing Red Scare 2.0? Most of the democratic establishment, and all of the donors.
My take is that "don't scare the centrists" is a doom spiral. Establishment Dem policy is to the right of Reagan on most key issues at this point.
The economic populists are winning primaries in spite of being outspent 10:1 - because their policies are wildly popular with _damn near everyone who hears them_. And not just "popular" - salient enough to get people doing something about them.
Oh my these new democrats want such shocking things like apartments not having deadly mold and.... oh my GOD are they trying to make the MAIL pass on SCHEDULE!? What blasphemy is this!?
It actually makes sense if you think of it in American terms. If everyone to the left of me is a leftist, that only means you have fascists with you. Sorry, I meant Americans. Same thing.
Eh, one nation becoming the new default right wing is less than ideal. Labor has shifted so far to the right they're not going to institute much needed reform in the face of imminent taxation collapse from labour.
I mean, similar to the USA, you've got milquetoast labor/dems and batshit one nation/LNP/republicans. Does appear labor is the least shit option at the federal level.
Establishment Dems are center-right, the equivalent of Europe's conservatives and "liberals" (as in liberal towards regulations, and friendly to industry) which used to be the right-wing _end_ of the accepted political spectrum, but sadly, even here right-wing parties are on the rise in recent years...
This. It's no surprise that things like bodily autonomy, universal healthcare and fair taxation are decried as extreme left wing ideas when the centrist position is just shy of concentration camps. While the 'right wing' party is already running them and building more.
Where would someone go for actual 'far left' politicians- with little hope for fascism ever gaining a foothold? Asking because I am working on a way out.
Fascism can happen at any point in time - Star Trek had a few episodes in each series about that. When you recognize the signs of a fascist person or group, then you have to curb and reduce their power AND make others aware of such backwards people.
I tried curbing it on a most basic, local level. The amount of hell I am in right now is mind boggling. The US can go sink like an old dingy as far as I'm concerned at this point.
I want out. I want to walk away, and never look back.

Andrew Cuomo should spend a few centuries learning about consent, and fuck the fuck off from politics forever.

The US has a far right party and a right wing party. It’d be awesome if the Democratic Party became an actual left wing party but it’d be a stretch.
