I work at a dog salon, and on slow days when they have me on front desk duty, I'll pick one or two dogs and sketch them(we take pictures of them for our records). It's nothing crazy, I probably spend a combined 20 minutes on a sketch, but I typically just give them to the owners and their reactions are always fucking adorable.
My girlfriend painted a portrait of my oldest boy before he passed away and it's the greatest treasure. She got his look so perfect. Sometimes you really capture more in a drawing than you can in a photo. I love that you do that for people!
And I always worry that I'm slacking off when I do it but my bosses love it. Closest they've come to taking issue is asking me to photograph them before giving them away.
My mother has been pressuring me to start doing commission-work She helps my brother run a doggie day care (where I would 100% be working if I could convince my girlfriend to move to Maine. Alas, I went and fell for a city girl who hates cold and isolation, the two things I miss most about my homeland, and I'd rather persist in this TRASH HEAP called New Jersey for the rest of my days than be without her) and is CERTAIN she could get me enough clients to at least at cover my car payments.
