Also on first glance it looks like the snake can go both ways around each point (over and under), but is on the same path, as the number of points is even. Looking closer it is guided into the same path as well.

I don't think that is enough here. Decent mechanical watches are already very complex and this is adding at least 12 extra gears and a ton of extra contact points and sources of friction/wear. It's definitely not an "everyday wear" watch, I would be surprised if it lasted more than a year or so of daily use.

That's pretty common for mechanical - if you're wearing it then it's auto winding just from normal motion, if you aren't wearing it, then either you have a winder or you just set it when you want to wear it and manually wind it to get it started.

I've had one like this, I think it's called a kinetic battery? Either way, awesome mechanic, sadly mine started running slow after like 3 years, shortly outside of warranty.

A Seiko Kinetic? Those are pretty cool. It probably just needs a new capacitor. But it should have lased longer than 3 years. Casio has regular quartz watches with 5 and 10 year batteries.

Most mechanical watches these days have automatic winding, that turns physical motion into stored potential energy in the mainspring. I haven't had to wind my watch since the last time I decided to not wear it for a few days. When I put it back on, I just wound it a few times to get it going, and then normal arm movement wound it the rest of the way. If you wear it every day, you basically never need to wind it.

the engineering and math for clockworks that go above around 40 hrs. is sorta bonkers. it gets even crazier when you start miniaturizing it for wristwatches. winddown time for the basic Rolex is 42 hrs the most expensive ones are 72 hrs. The battle between gear ratios for higher winddown time and the resultant torque vs the material science of the gears is exacting and that's even before you take into loss of efficency due to friction or gear racking.

If you wear an automatic mechanical watch daily, you don't need a winding case. Just wearing it on the daily will be sufficient to keep it wound up, even if you take it off at night. Winding cases are mostly for people who have a collection and don't wear the same watch every day.

Winding a mechanical watch daily is pretty standard. Most people wind them when they put them on in the morning. Battery-powered analog watches, where the battery should last months or years, are a different species.

I can't even think of needing to wind it every morning, I would forget so fast. I do like the kinetic ones that charge by moving. But I like the one with the solar backplate the most.
Last 3 I bought had that, and my latest even has radiographic time synching, listening to cellphone towers. Don't even need to think about time zones or summer/winter time anymore.

Some people enjoy the ritual of winding a handwound watch. I like all kinds of wrist watches because of the 'neato' factor. I have a Casio Wave Ceptor that is solar powered and synchronizes with an atomic clock every couple of days. The atomic clock network has its own radio frequency independent of cellular networks. Although cellular networks ultimately get their time updated from the same atomic clock sources.
