For the bass post, I suggest Jerry Casale’s, and the Weird Al toaster parody

I used to build/modify my own electric guitars. Its tedious and not that fun.
drousnavat
Can I include mine?
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
The ever famous one string, one topping guitar!
MOYASH1
#10 I would say I want this, but considering that thing probably weighs around 30 lbs, I think I'm good.

There's a few cool ones, but most of these are impractical, ugly, or both.
LazerHawkAttack
7 cool guitars
tarnation2000
What a cool post - thanks for making it. The Cadillac and #24 caught my eye and #6 whammy bar placement LOL
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
I never noticed the whammy bar and now it's all I see!
DevilsAdvocat
Mattias Krantz made a guitar where the strings were only physically attached to one side..
here's the videos link where he built it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueCO4spGNPs
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
That was a great video. Thanks for posting it. Scary as fuck!
I wonder what a guitar like that would do in a live concert setting. Those huge magnets must wreak havoc on all the other electrical stuff. Still, cool engineering!
DevilsAdvocat
you'd have to get really close to anything to screw up any electronics, remember, this is an electric guitar, and the magnets don't even mess with the internal pick-up that's inches from them (here's another shorter video about designing the guitar where he mentions this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHjT59PTl1U )
he does a lot of bonkers things with instruments, was mostly with pianos, he only recently shifted to guitars
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Fair point.
I'll check out more of his stuff. Hanging the guitar on his fridge door was a nice touch!
ukimalefu
#10 that’s a heavy metal guitar
UISpice
Another one you forgot: iconic Takanaka surfboard guitar
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
It's gonna be in my next post only the pic I have is a blue one.
nimeton0
Missed one.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Next list will be guitars like this. Beautiful monstrosities that are nearly impossible to play!
AllCloudsAreMagical
! Love a Frankenstein instrument. Tag me if you remember when you post!
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Finally done, hope you like it.

By the time you tune the last string, the first one is out of tune.

The best I got is a Warlock that I've been trying, and failing, to practice with. I dont think my fingers were made for guitar :(
BenderRodriguz1010
I built it
KellyCrazyCatLadyinTraining
Wait, seriously?! Make a post about it! I want to know when you made (what year), how long it took to make, and the process! It’s awesome!
BenderRodriguz1010
Im really bad at posting about projects. It used to be a kids guitar that had a speaker built in, so it technically doesn't need an amp. It's a mess but I can keep it running lol. Parts are on backwards ect. I've been working on it for a few years. Its finally "done".
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Nice! I think I see duct tape. Reminds me of EVH. Whatever it takes to make it work.
Thanks for sharing.
BenderRodriguz1010
Duct tape and blocks held by tension pressure. If it goes out of tune, usually only I can tune it lol
HanSoslow
Back during dial-up I found ESP guitars website had a custom guitar request form. I'd type in the weirdest shit, but the total amount was always maxed out by the time i was done.
swedeonamoose
#7 Pretty sure many Rockabilly bands would have killed for that thing.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
I agree. That guitar fits a lot of bands. So classy!
wadatahmydamie
It looks like it would belong to a band worthy of opening for Brian Setzer
Evo435
#10 Gut feeling this is AI, but if it was real you would be ripped by the time you learn how to play your first chord.
sacrosanctt
For sure AI.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
I think it's real but for novelty purposes. Certainly isn't practical, I agree.
dingybasement350
Look at the numbers and letters on it. It's a bunch if gibberish.
Temzilla
I imagine it's an art piece, the pickups/electronics in particular don't make sense, but make more sense than an AI would make of pickups. Also the sunthorn chinbut guy seems to be relatively active.
RedTwoX
I think it's an "art piece" and not meant to be a playable instrument. There are a couple in here that I think I photo-edits, but more old-school photoshop than AI.
rumandbass
It would weigh about 50 lbs
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Does this help?
Sanivia
#1 paige no !
ChetinBey
Are these real? Or ai?
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
These are real.
sacrosanctt
Except #10. That is AI.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Maybe, but I don't think so.
sacrosanctt
Dude. That video is AI, lol. Left hand fingers change shape as they grab the guitar, writing on pipe wrenches is gibberish. The machines in the background are not accurate to actual machinery.
Look up the user. He posts assloads of AI slop on his facebook. Most of it far more obvious than this one. Makes a bunch of surreal guitar AI pictures and videos. A guitar made of dumbbells, a guitar that's also a gas stove, a giant guitar store hidden inside of a tree accessible via sci-fi elevator.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
You may be right, but he has three 'making of' vids for this guitar. That's some dedication to decieve! Thanks for posting, I am confused but I'm glad you pointed it out.
Jmarie453
@OP This was a great post, I had not seen most of these before!
I imagine you may have come across this builder in your searches, but this is an awesome video if you have not.
Both guitars come out absolutely gorgeous and of course they "rock"!

youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Thanks for posting. I hadn't heard of him before but that was a great video to start a Sunday with. So much work goes into them. I have to check out the color pencil guitar later!
Thanks, again.
dingybasement350
#34 it's a bass bass.
WebDragonG3
my personal favorite was always the Hagstrom Corvette

#30 That's...not a guitar.

youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
You're right. It's a Nerdy Gurdy!
It is a hand-cranked musical instrument that produces sound by a rosined wheel rubbing against strings, similar to a violin bow.
Nice catch.
ZiggyMundo
Hurdy Gurdy. Nerdy is close enough, though.
GravyEducation
*hurdy. Think autocorrect hit ya there
Tokoloshe
I think he had https://www.nerdygurdy.nl/ in mind. But yes, they make Hurdy Gurdies. :D
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
No, it's based on the hurdy gurdy but this one is aptly named the Nerdy Gurdy by the guy who built it! I guess he thought it was cute.
It's a hurdy gurdy named nerdy gurdy!!
GravyEducation
Ah I see
tehdigi
The nerdy gurdy is indeed a gurdy. It's just one particular model that has been designed to be self build and more affordable than going to a luthier for one
ComradeGreetingCard
Honorable mention, the guitar St Vincent designed with Ernie Ball.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
St Vincent can shred!
ComradeGreetingCard
Hell yeah! She is a bad ass. If you have some time, her BBC Proms is amazing https://youtu.be/wCKm64uMm9Q?si=t2pCq5nssUMt6QZ5
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
Thanks. I'll check it out.

If that's real and not a photo-edit or 3d render, that dragon head is all in the way for upper fret access. Imagine having an instrument like that and you're stuck playing cowboy chords :-D
HappyTimeHollis
Also, here's a video of it being played. The dragon head sticks out from the body at an angle, ensuring there is no loss of upper fret access. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1WdaoofdCk
HappyTimeHollis
Oh, that one is definitely real! I know about this guitar!

It was created by Alistair Hay of Emerald Guitars and it was a custom build called 'The Bahamut/The Bahamod' for Chinese artist Wang Leehom in 2008.
Emerald Guitars make absolutely *brilliant* carbon-fibre acoustic guitars. Attached picture is of the double-neck I had them make me during Covid.
Moriarte
Some things are just made to be looked at, you know.
youtinybrainedwipersofotherpeoplesbottoms
I noticed that about a lot of these. Novelty guitars are not built for comfort or accessibility it seems.
RedTwoX
There are certainly some "guitar shaped art pieces" in here ;-)
HappyTimeHollis
This one was definitely used live by Wang Leehom.

Thanks for posting that video.
