Let's go to 1997
Paris Hilton is 16 year old . She's a normal rebellious teen that sneaks out and skips school
Her parents, don't know what to do with her ,so they hire strangers to take her away
At 2 am ,two men walk into her bedroom and drag her out of the house while she screams
Her parents watch it happens. They've been told it's for her own good
She ends up at Provo canyon school in Utah,a boarding school for troubled teens
She's strip searched the day she arrives. She's hit and choked by the staff. She's forced to take pills that nobody explain to her what are for
When she acts out they lock her in a bare room for 24 hours
She stays there for 11 months
Provo is part of something called the troubled teen industry, a billion dollars business
Parents pay huge amounts of money to send difficult kids away , and for over 50 years, nobody watched what happens inside
Kids came out telling horror stories. Adults call them liars and the money kept rolling in
Then that industry made their biggest mistake,they hurt Paris
In September 2020, Paris releases on YouTube called "This is Paris"
Everyone expects a fun movie about a rich glamorous life
Instead,she sits down and tells the world,on camera,for the first time ever, what happened to her at the Provo canyon.
Even her own family didn't know the details until they saw the film
Over 50 million people watch , and she says the school name,out loud on the record ,for everyone to hear
But she doesn't stop at a documentary
One month later,she gets on a plane to Utah and leads a silent protest right outside the gates of Provo canyon school
Hundreds of survivors march beside her. Some of them were locked up there at the same time she was
Imagine standing in front of the place that tortured you and refusing to look away . That's what she did
Then she takes the fight to the government
In February 2021, she testifies in front of the Utah state Senate. She tells a room full of politicians, in detail, what that school did to her
Utah passes a law to finally regulate those facilities. It passes almost unanimously
Then she does it again,in Minnesota, in Oregon and in California
In total,she helps pass 15 paws across the country. Fifteen.
She spends years meeting with members of Congress , pushing for one thing, a federal law that protects kids in those facilities in every state
The woman they mocked as "the dumb blonde" for 20 years just outworked the United States Congress
December 2024, it finally happens
The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act becomes federal law . It passed the Senate unanimously
For the first time in American history, there's a national law law taking on the abuse inside those facilities
Paris words that day : " I did this for the younger version of myself"
The little girl nobody saved grew up and saved everyone else
And now,in July 2026 , the final blow
The state of Utah revokes Provo canyon school license after finding 16 serious allegations
Investigators found a girl whose kidneys have failed,after staff ignored her pain for over a week
A 13 year old boy was left with a brain injury and a broken jaw ,and nobody called 911
Every child inside was moved out by August 6 . The owners are banned for reopening for 5 years
The school that tortured her is closing , because of her
