Well for the most part there's very little point in trying to generate hype a full year before a midterm and three years before the presidential election. Especially if you're not currently an elected official looking to get re-elected or move up to a higher position.

No, there's no recall option for a federal senator. The only ways for their terms to end early are through death, resignation, or a 2/3 vote to expel. And the expulsion option hasn't been used since 1862.

None of them are up for reelection, Dem leadership had them be the sacrificial lambs so Dems who are running for another term would be insulated from the backlash. Schumer is the real problem, panicked when Mamdani got elected and is worried their shutdown strategy was working too well and getting democratic socialists elected.

This also reflects badly on Schumer. Durbin is the minority whip, which means Chuck was either complicit, or massively inept. The timing for this couldn't be any worse. The recent election results and Trump literally suing the states to withdraw SNAP benefits makes this the absolute WORST time to capitulate. You both lose all leverage, and sacrifice any gains in the court of public opinion.
