I'm inclined to agree with Jada. As an outsider who's not seen it and has no stake in it's success or failure, it looks like she's right. The only complaint that I have seen about it is that Cleopatra is black.

Not an opinion on the show, but an opinion on the critiques. And I have seen enough of those critiques that I can form an opinion on those. Show might genuinely be terrible, that I don't know. But if every critique seems to start with "how dare they cast an uppity black woman," that I kinda wonder if it's the show or the reviewer. I can definitely understand why she would say it's white supremacy even if it's a truly awful program because the critiques sound like white supremacy.

Indeed. Egyptians are adamant that they are neither black, nor Arab, nor Greek, but Egyptian (see Faiyum mummy portraits). Since Alexandria was the de facto center of the Hellenistic world during the reign of the Ptolemies, the likelihood of her maternal ancestry being more Greek than native is high (not to mention the fact that the dynasty's lineage is riddled with incestuous intermarriage).

The main issue is that people don't like Jada herself, as she's apparently pretty unlikeable as a person. That being said, this was billed as a documentary, and was absolutely gutted by historians. They ran a whole ass train on it. Consider a documentary about the US that has Ben Franklin with Puritanical values or a French history that put Charles the Beloved as a military genius. If it was instead supposed to be a historical drama, it probably would have had a pass.

And that's fine. You can dislike it because Jada is not a likeable person. You can dislike it because it's inaccurate. But the level of vitriolic hate? Bad, unlikeable, and inaccurate doesn't result in the lowest audience score ever on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm not saying all the haters are white supremacists, but it's tough to find a reason why anyone else would really care. Are there suddenly that many Egyptophiles?

In a world of 8 billion people, it's really hard to see why anyone other than white American dudes could have an opinion or make any sort of impact. This American demand that everything everywhere at every time in history is/was driven by identical ideologies is a big reason for the hate. Egypt's history has to be altered because of a contemporary American issue, and Egyptians apparently are Americanized racists for not liking that. Netflix is not an authority, America is not the world.

If you legit have egyptians who are definitely not white(and of whom cleopatra was one technically) saying she wasn't black she was greek...get our history right motherfuckers, and that's your leadoff publicity for your new show, the rest is downhill which isn't good

And to make it worse she didn't care and said it's a difference of opinion and having no historical records to back it up whatsoever. Also the sheer ignorance for existing historical experts and dismissing them with "we have a different opinion" is baffling.
