I stand with Niel the Seal and his right to cut through my yard on his way to moult and mix at the seaside.

That's like an overweighted cat, if I understand correctly

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Oh so when he does it its fine but when i do it its "sir put your clothes back on" and "SIR stop rubbing yourself against the newsboxes!"

I like the guy holding up the no parking sign to him. 😆. Is somebody going to say it or do I have to?

Neil is my spirit animal. I too flop about, break things, interrupt perfectly normal days and generally lay about and shed.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Are people feeding it? Just seems like an animal that large and unwieldy on land would need constant food.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, they know not to.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neils mother gave birth to him on the beach after becoming lost from their usual range. Tragically elephant seals will always return to the beaches they were born on and Neil returns to the empty beaches he was born on every year instead of joining others of his kind. Relocation wont work as he will just return the following year as his instincts have become hardwired to his birth-beach.

That's really sad. You made me sad.

2 times I've nearly hit this bastard with my car, he just decides to cross the east Derwent highway, 80km speed limit (50mph) and corners galore.
One time he just decided half way across to lay down 20 min delay till he decided to move.

We all love him down here but he is 100% a C*NT to the locals.

Imagine being so horizontal you become racist against vertical.

if I learned anything from Freya the walrus, this is not going to end well for Neil

2 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

He's a beloved local hooligan. I've heard of him a before. Let him party for a few days and he'll be on his way

2 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Aw man, that was kindof a shitty decision. Just read up on Freya, didn’t realize they killed her without giving her a chance. Blamed people for getting too close? That is BS Norway. You all could have spent money to move her in the fancy cage!
As an American I fear our government would have done much worse so I know I can’t really say shit, still sad tho.

American would send RFK jr in there with a fork.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’d watch that on ppv.

Naaaaaaaaaah people like him too much, and he's been coming back for years. He's only just about entering maturity now, but he's not gonna cause much more destruction than usual without competing males around

2 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

How long do they take to reach maturity? I believe I have read about seals beating up Ford Cortinas since the internet was born, and I have at least reached what can be perceived as maturity since then.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Neil is about 5 yrs. old. Adult male elephant seals do not reach full maturity until 8 or 9 yrs. They can get up to 20 feet (6 meters) long and weight up to 9,000 lbs (4,082 kg)

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I saw between the ages of 6 and 10?

There is no seal colony. Normally he'd do this on the beach with other seals.

2 months ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 4

There probably was a colony until people moved in and drove them off.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he was a lost orphan who came ashore there, now it's instinctual instead of where he is supposed to go

Have a look at how far Launceston is from the coast. That's where Neil usually is. He's just off doing his own thing.

2 months ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Could they move his blubber butt to Launceston? .aybe even and air drop like iperation dumbo drop

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

He would just come back

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1
