I know y'all don't like selfies. I tried to crop it down to eliminate that to some degree.
Anyway, I didn't wear my goggles when working on a C-130 Fuel line that wasn't properly drained before opening it. I can tell you first hand... this shit burns. Getting your eyes flushed out with rubber contacts that prevent you from closing your eyes is no party either.
What's the point? Always wear your protective gear. You never know what's gonna go wrong.

It's always an eye-watering experience to see people hurt like this.

Bet you got a DSV for your squadron.. and probably an LOR.. put that PPE on homie.. that's why it's in your box.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

So glad it wasn't parasitic eye worms.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"That'll never happen to me..." I've had about 3 guys crushed in my organization when they didn't lock out the machines.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We carry those eye flushers at my hospital but I've never seen them in action. Neat! Sorry for your agony, friend.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I opened a fuel line without glasses on once and got Jet A-1 in my eye. Spent 30 mins flushing it out. Shitty for sure.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should have watched crazyrussianhacker's videos. "Hello evrybdy welcome back to.my labrrrtyrtry where SAFETY is number 1 prirty"

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Lol I love the way he pronounces "laboratory"

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're the reason why we have twice annual dirty dozen refresher courses.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Think yourself lucky it's not fucking skydrol... that shit burns.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Morgan lens,, good fun

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn, here's to a speedy recovery,. I've had one drop of aviation fluid in my eye I can only imaging how you must feel.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

C-130, Rollin down the strip... hit a pothole and the motherfucker flipped.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where's your PPE damn it this is how you get safety briefings. Maintainers

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

My PI once dropped a box into liquid nitrogen. The contained overflowed & the nitro splashed all over my legs. Never have I been more 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thankful for the long pants and close-toed boots. PPE is important 2/2. Container*

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I still have both of my eyes because of safety glasses. A heavy steel door swung open on my machine, and the corner cut a gouge in them...

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Woah dude that's intense. I bet your bumhole could make diamonds bc of how much you clenched

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No doubt. Wear your PPE, my friend...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Had it happen to me with Aircraft paint. Fucking worst pain in my life. Our shit navy doc didn't let me use those though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wait... so this is a picture of him with hot glue in his eyes right?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Called a morgan lense. The tubes are hooked to saline bags for irrigation

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uh oh. QA is going to have a field day.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

QA is jerking off into each other having a jeez party drinking jeez cocktails and wiping up with DSVs

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah. When this happens, we always had the person give a super embarrassing safety brief!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Gotta love those cringey safety briefings or cringey briefings in general.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Surely that does not stand for quality assurance?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least engage your safety squints

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

not good enough for this shit .....

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spoiler alert: it never is. Here's to a speedy recovery brother.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheers...2nd that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're gonna have a Squadron briefing next week about wearing your PPE, thanks to you haha

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fucking base-wide. Even CE is going to have to revisit the eye-pro power point.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Some First Sergeant is exploding right now

10 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

This was my first thought

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit as a supervisor I want to strangle him. Showing this post to my guys tomorrow.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can see all the dank memes in my way

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah! Ive gotten JP-8 and hydro in my eye before. NOT FUN! Always wear your PPE! (Im an F-16 Crew Chief)

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I got a jp8 bath when I knocked the nozzle of the hose. My eyes stung. BUT MY BALLS! IT BURNED WAY WORSE.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That sucks dude!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuelcell here I got baptised into my fuel shop with my first C130 aux job ........I was ashy for a while

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's up with C130s drenching people in fuel? I'm in the Army, and this makes no sense.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because no matter how much you drain the auxiliary tanks there's always going to be fuel left on the door or on the foam

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And if you don't know how to open it correctly .... Youre gonna get a jet fuel shower

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel sorry for you. - C-130 crew chief.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a crew chief from a tiny lawn dart - how long does a PR/BPO take on that massive thing? Does 1 guy do it?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've only done a combo by myself one time. Normally it is 2-4 people. One outside&gears, one in cargo, one in flight deck. 2 hours is 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the normal time. It all depends on whether is needs flap/gear lube or any other random MX. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wasn't even thinking about the cargo! I would hate doing the top. Is there a bunch of stuff in the gear? (Filters/pumps/etc)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It takes a slow guy 30-45min to do one on ours haha it takes me 20.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's some Clockwork Orange looking shit right thurr

His droogs probably found that amusing.

They're called a Morgan Lens, they hook right up to an IV bag, pain in the ass to get into someone's eye who's already sensitive or in pain.

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I was genuinely curious.

I had these & it was not fun. It did the job though & in grateful for them.

As a Bridgestone Teammate

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

sometimes the safety gods needed a sacrifice, but you can always tell the techs who have been around a good accident and those who have not

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. Was issued safety glasses when I started my new job but told I don't have to wear them. Laughed when my workmate got shit in his eye.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had solder hit one of my eyes once. That scared the shit outta me. No damage. Mr safety now.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Everyone I've talked in my work place says that. "Every rule in this book is written in the blood of your brothers. "

10 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 0

Going to guess "Electrician," or "Oil Worker." How close was I?

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

MIning and heavy industry operation and maintenance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Railroader. A trade, so close?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does electricity make you bleed though?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Can certainly make you stop bleeding. Like, the good bleeding - in your arteries and shit. Your heart. It stops your heart.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I'm high and really needed the full explanation

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People tend to bleed from the secondary injuries from shock, I bleed quite a bit when I took a 2 story fall from being 19 and stupid.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Have you ever seen what happens to someone that gets blasted by plasma from a fried 480 circuit?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, absolutely it does. Electrical shock can cause a burn at point of contact if high enough voltage+current.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't that cauterize immediately?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It can blow you out like an overcooked hot dog.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Related: My dad used to say electrician's know which wires are safe, and which wires turn you into fucking smoke.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My father says that sorta stuff. He's an electronic technician who works on tools full of HF, Piranha Solution, and phosphoric acid.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Which is why I wonder how our species survived that long

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

By learming from others mistakes or our own non fatal ones. And with enlightened thinking and philosophy.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because enough of us manage to pop out a sprog before we get ourselves aced.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

masterful use of the English language

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Because we can learn of the mistakes of people we never even meet. A baby squid has to learn everything from scratch, we KNOW certain things

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The dumb dead fuckers.. The slightly smarter ones lived long enough to fuck

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You would think this is obvious but apparently there is a fair share of luck involved in surviving dangerous stuff

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Better to be lucky than good

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. I work with HV power (11kV+). My theory is all our safety rules were written from hard experience, not deduction. Think about that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ha, you've probably got a DSV with your name on it for when you get back to the hanger

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You all play equal parts. Without maintenance or aircrew, the plane won't fly very well.

The problem is that 99.9% of everyone reading this goes "This'll never happen to me". Which is why we still have a lot of accidents.

This includes self defense.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This will never happen to me. I work in an office...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd say that there is a good chance that 99.9% of us are not C-130 ground crew. So they're pretty safe in saying that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i say that all the time when turning wood or whatever else it is im doing, waiting for the day this happens to me and i learnmy lesson

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It won't, until you decide not to wear your safety gear.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm the 0.1% thinking "this is the kind of messed up thing that'd only happen to me".

I fell off an 8ft ladder onto solid concrete after an airduct fell on my ladder, only reason I lived was because of my hard hat.

"This shit could happen to me, that's why I should always use all proper safety equipment. It can be avoided, or at least not as bad."

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK, You've convinced me; I'm staying the fuck away from C-130's. O SHIT I live by Keesler AFB in Biloxi; C-130's fly over my house each day!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*GO, HURRICANE HUNTERS!!! I've gotten to go inside those babies a couple of times and they are freaking awesome!!! 53d WRS for yo ass!!!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good. Stay away from those planes. They suck.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's good to know since I live in the possible debris field

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those ones are the J models at Keesler and are not the sucky ones

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget about the C-5 Galaxys!

10 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I don't anticipate ever working on C130 fuel line, so in this case I'd probably be correct

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it is very unlikely I'll ever even touch a C-130 in my lifetime.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Schrodingers cat is probably alive... why not me?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right. Glad I still have all 9 1/2 fingers.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In my experience, that's not the thought process at all. It's more along the lines of "Damn, I'd better always wear my PPE. Wait, I gotta...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...do this thing real quick." And then forgetting (possibly ignoring, generally forgetting) the PPE.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One time I was making candles and the accidentally splashed the hot wax on my face which Sealed my eyelids closed

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't get near those things... So it'll never happen to me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wear my ppe always. I don't want to be a statistic that is presented in those safety briefings.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I couldn't believe.. . I GUARANTEE It, Guarantee it, that guy that was burned at some oil site

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's why my cousin lost the use of his left hand after he removed the protective cover from his angle grinder. Straight through the tendons.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Holy shit. What happened? I mean, did he slip or lose control of it somehow?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. He had a cutting disc on it and was going through some steel and it caught and ran off. He had his arm in front of it and got a

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neat diagonal cut right across his arm, completely severing all but two tendons. He's a fucking moron anyway, thinks it's all a joke and now

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because he's on compo he never has to work again. He's a fucking loser.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It won't happen to me because I'll wear my goggles

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The reasoning behind safety briefs cause there was a dumbass out there that did it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I was... Still sometimes am like that. I'm working on it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they would stop making people wear goggles for stupid shit like lube and removing hardware, they would take the real ones more seriously.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

99.9% sounds low. I mean, how many of us are going to be handling C-130 fuel lines?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My job will let you go if they catch you without safety glasses 3 times. No joke people have been fire for that shit.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was an Air Force IDMT (medic)....it happens to everyone, including myself, whose job is to fix you after this dumb move....

At least they were clean after that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I take chances with a lot of things, but not my eyes or pecker.

10 years ago | Likes 164 Dislikes 0

I take chances, but not with eyes, hands, dick, or any part that bleeds a lot (neck, stomach) - I'd rather be alive and capable of working.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. Safety glasses go on at beginning of shift, stay on until I clock out.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eyes, ears, fingers, and penis. All things you should take no chances with.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, That will never happen to me.
