my cousin was shot to death in a triple homicide at san diego state university. the killer accepted life without parole in exchange for eliminating the death penalty. ten or 15 years later hes applying for commutation. didnt get it, but he can apply over and over for the rest of his life.

Because life in prison is worse, and because if it turns out a person was wrongly convicted then they can be freed and compensated to some degree, and because if government can't get it right 100% of the time then it must be used 0% of the time if you don't want to an innocent person to be murdered by you

life in prison, if it's without parole, is more of a punishment, in some ways. It means you will never be free again, and you will die here. For some death is a release, for some it's feared. But knowing they won't get to escape 40+ years of suffering is somehow justifying. Most think death is the ultimate punishment, but really, while I support the Death Penalty, I think that being forced to live with and suffer for what you've done is far worse. Make is solitary too.
