Also like, as a woman, my female role models growing up were women like Ripley, Sara Connor, etc these were women who were complete and well thought of characters with arcs. They were not caricatures of strong women.
Rey does not nothing to uplift young girls the way those two did for me. And I feel bad for anyone growing up with them as role models.
It was somewhat taken out of context and worded differently from what she meant, Jennifer Lawrence claiming something along the lines of being the first female action hero to carry a movie made me giggle. Obviously Terminator relied a lot on co-star Arnold but Linda carried that movie with her physique, actionscenes and actingquality. Same for 'Ripley'. And I (as a male who definitively noticed Weaver as Dana in GB) never thought of them as FEMALE stars at the time, just as bad-ass action stars.
Whilst broadly acurratte it was much more what they signified, i.e a willingness to throw hands. Human ships just are not upto getting into a shooting match with the Minbari.
"My shoes are too tight. But it does not matter because I have forgotten how to dance. I never understood what he meant by that until today..." "I don't understand." "No should you... Nor should you."
Absolutely fucking insane that the darkside, Palpatine won in the end. All the Jedi have been killed. So many dead. All the teachings lost. & then some unworthy imposter pilfers the Skywalker name.
I am Susan Ivanova. Commander. Daughter of Andre and Sophie Ivanov. I am the right hand of vengeance and the boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to Earth, sweetheart! I am death incarnate, and the last living thing that you will ever see. God sent me.

Babylon 5 in general has some of the best written characters ive ever had the pleasure of watching, and i wanted so much to be a badass like Delenn or Ivanova.
I liked Bab 5 a lot, but as far as I'm concerned it's spin off Crusade was even better, and the characters were every bit as good, but Galen is by far my favourite. One line I've always especially liked, the Captain says to him 'You hold a lot of grudges don't you?', Galen - 'No, not at all, I don't have a single living enemy, not even one!'
I like how they're not just flawless paragons, they also have their own flaws and struggles. Delenn was straight up brutal during the Earth-Minbari War.
And then so many of them had actual character arcs and development that influenced and interacted with each other. Prime example Londo and G'Kar, with the acting lending it so much quality.
When Vir started out I couldn't help but think of him as "Space Flounder" but his character underwent some pretty amazing development and ended up kicking plenty of ass.
Indeed the supposed third and fourth ones were nothing more than cryosleep sickness induced nightmares. When Ripley fully woke up she took the girl and looked after Hicks because of those acid burns with help from Bishop after getting him mostly back in working order.
Honestly the Alien movies are capitalism propaganda in disguise. On the one hand portray banal evil, but on the other they show over and over that the "right people" can only prosper if everyone else suffers/dies.
You should checkout the script that Gibson wrote about Hicks and Newt getting to a corporate outpost. It got turned into a comic and audioplay if those are more your taste.
Propaganda shows a good viewpoint on whatever they're trying to promote...if you came away from the alien movies feeling like weylend-yutani were the good guys...we did not see the same scenes...it was clear they were the bad guys, even more than the xenomorphs...because they were trying to sacrifice human life for the chance to make more money on a destructive resource they had no solid info on...for the profits...this was about the dangers of capatalism...not promoting it
Alien Romulus is like 2/3rds of a really good movie. Once it succumbs to winks and callbacks to the other movies in the series and an instant badass is found my brain switched off entirely.
Romulus. Came out last year. They're trying to get back to the "small ensemble cast desperately fighting aliens in a hopeless situation" roots. It'll never be what Aliens was because having the plot set up by Alien and Weaver as the protagonist is unbeatable, but as an alien action flick it was fun and had great moments and was nothing like whatever the fuck Prometheus and Covenant were trying to do.
I still have yet to watch it...I started, and then it spit out musk's wet dream of increasing interest on the debt owed to work...and I mentally shut down...couldn't go beyond that...it's probably just a hiccup in the movie...but i can still see that happening now
I quite like how Alien: Earth conveniently sidesteps those two and still manages to not negate the first two movies. Well not yet at least, there's still three episodes.
That last sentence alone sold me. Thanks for the info! I’ll check it out. Yea aliens is my favourite. And the remake was nice. It just added 30s or so to each scene. Nothing to ruin it.
Every. Damn. Time. LOVED how Delen could be so deeply caring and nurturing while also being so intense and powerful in equal measure. Such a fantastic character.

I think you just read a narrower definition than the standard. Its meant that since like the 60s when the original Mary Sue was created.
