Every American metropolis has at least one of these. Once the area reaches ~1M people, they hold a big ceremony and summon it to this plane with a blood sacrifice. Afterwards, they make more blood sacrifices every couple weeks to keep it tied to the mortal realm.

Can't dig down. The water table is so high the inky way to go is up. When it snows/freezes we shut down the city for the day and try again tomorrow. Usually costs us 1-3 days each year. Maybe not a great system, but I understand it.

We get snow... for about 3-5 days a year. Usually it's maybe enough to make the pavement a bit damp and the whole state shuts down
