They really don't. The sad thing is, because of media in general and internet access, most kids know everything about sex, drugs and how fucked up the world is by the time they are 10. Also how is explaining gay, lesbian or any other kind of sex more awkward of a conversation than the normal sex talk you are supposed to give kids? To be fair, some of the mutants are insanely deadly and able to wipe out entire cities in an instant. I do not know any gay people that can do that. A little caution makes sense for Mutants, but there is literally no reason to hate someone because they do something with someone you will never know or see.
