Oil has paid a ton of money to scare people away from renewable energy, and to embrace climate change. All so they can keep selling more gas to gas guzzlers. They seem to have successfully slowed EV adoption. Significant oil price increases risk speeding EV adoption up.

If you want to know how the war is going, pay careful attention to Kharg Island. It's a gigantic port/crude oil storage area. Approx 95% of Iran's crude is sold through there. If it's intact (it currently is,) then US/Israel is planning for a future with Iran having a healthy oil exporting economy--so a friendly govt. If it is blown up, they are basically admitting defeat and trying to inflict an economic disaster on Iran's future leaders that they see as staying adversarial/hostile.
