Their technique is pretty amazing. When I was taught to walk on stilts, I had the handles go up behind my back for stability. Far less mobility, though.
Someone was the first to do this, then they convinced others and eventually it became the norm and everyone in the tribe was doing it. I wanna know that story
It's a distinction that can kill you. Venomous, due to definition, means a poison concentrated in a specific part. Poisonous, also due to definition, means poison diffused though much or all of the thing. Venomous is safer/easier to cook and eat when prepped right, but has much higher cost of failure. Some snakes are venomous, most pufferfish are poisonous. Most snakes are safe to eat, pufferfish not so much. Also, venom usually works on its user, poison doesn't.
It's not incorrect though. A venom is an injury-delivered toxin, which is a type of organic poison. The only professionals who care about the distinction are doctors, who need to know that a given poison is a fast-acting biotoxin.
i would take every bet there hasnt been a single death on the planet from confusing venomous or poisonous. Thats why its an unnecessary distinction thats not even in every language you smartass
It seems like those not in the field of biology are the ones arguing the difference. Most of the herpetologists and biologists I know have stopped arguing the point. We may inform someone that there is a difference in delivery systems, but we don't tell them that they are wrong. And many people here have English as a second (or third) language, and translating from their native tongue could still be "poison" in English.
Banna scientists announce breakthrough results on "sweet spot" for stilts-height to bite/fracture minimization! Banna influencer calls results "short-stilt nerd-cuck fake-news"! Snake bites down 1% over last year, fractures up 5609%!
A fracture-rate disparity along political affiliation is widely reported. Tall-stilt aficionados complain about increasing insurance premiums compared to their "socialist" neighbors; situation considered an exposed plot of "Big Beaver" by Q-Anon believers.
Man, I met one of those people in a YouTube comment section. Every time they said something, people would go. "Do you have any sources?" And the guy would say something like. "Heh, do your own research." "The truth is out there, do your own research." It was impossible for them to give sources of any kind. What a grade A moron.
Understand that this is a joke, but this is exactly how stats can be misleading. If 1 in 10 gets bitten each year, and 1 in 1000 get a fracture, the above would be a great trade!
I bet the stats on that are concerning⌠but venomous snake bites can kill in minutes and broken bones are seldom fatal, so maybe itâs a calculated risk!
I think it was more about age. Bigger, more coordinated kids won regardless. I liked the stilts better, though. The plastic fisher-price skates weren't great.

Semantics. Many languages use the same word for both venomous and poisonous. Both venom and poison are toxins but have different delivery methods

Sure, but if a lot of people use the word incorrectly, it still doesn't make its use correct.

possumattack
It's not semantics. Things that are toxic to potential predators are categorically different than things that are used for predation.
PhoenyxStar
Other way around. A venom is a toxin (organic poison). But yes, even more meaningless than semantics, *subcatagorization*
TK421isAFK
And here we are, using English. Some of us are even using it correctly, and trying to educate others into doing so - and then there's you.

and stats can be deceiving if you don't have all the data. Snake bites could be down from hundreds, fractures up from <10 total, for example.

Also if snake bites were 1 per day and fractures were 1 per week, that's a big improvement on total # of injuries!
