I promised my son I would build him a (small) basketball court this weekend. I GROSSLY underestimated the amount of work.

Decided to do interlocking so when he’s done with it, it still looks nice and we can put like... chairs or some shit.

I started yesterday at 4 pm.... this is where I finished around 8

Today I had a buddy help out.... got the soil level and started pouring in the HPB

Look at this cute little gravel trough I built! Felt pretty good about that....

Aaaand here’s where we are at the end of today. Still have another yard or so of gravel AND need to wheel barrow a skid of pavers into the backyard. Chance of completion by end of tomorrow: 5%

Front Page Edit: whoa! First time on FP. Already got exactly what I was hoping for:
1) confirmation I haven’t completely screwed up already; and
2) a ridiculous amount of encouragement.

Send advice

UPDATE!! I did it! I don’t know how to add photos to an existing post so here’s the new post with updated pics: https://imgur.com/gallery/spJd3r8?s=sms

5%? So you're telling me there's a chance?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're gonna need to tamp that down or the pavers will sink. You tube...

You got this!!

Definitely thought this was someone digging graves in a cemetery at first and was really curious what they meant by not gonna make it...

Most people underestimate how much work goes into most projects. It’s always simple in thought but complex in task

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congratulations Sir! You're a good Dad. Hope it all works out great!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your boy is going to be more pleased with how hard you’re working to do something for him, he may be disappointed by the timeline but (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he’ll remember this project you undertook for him until the day he dies! (2/2)

I tried making an ornate baby rocking chair for my months old son years ago. By the time I finish, he couldn't even sit in it.

I thought that was a fucking grave plot w/ your title.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You wanted to teach him « when you promess, you deliver » instead you gave him « don’t overestimate yourself »... and also « dad is fucking

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great, i love him » cause youse delivered !

with a dad this great, the kid can wait

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude. A patio can take a skilled crew a day or 2. That's like 3 guys 8hrs a piece minimum. So 24hrs if you KNOW what you're doing.

One again.... things that could have been brought to my attention YESTERDAY

I'm sorry. But there's a lesson here. Stay In Your Lane. Try new stuff. But do research. Landscaping is Hard. It's not just mowing lawns.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean... I did it. And it’s awesome. So.... what’s the lesson again?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"You know that basketball court I promised you?" "Yeah, is it done?" "How would you feel about a sandbox instead?"

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

You"re a good dad. Your son is helping, I hope.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You meant that you would “start” this weekend, right?

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You can do it!!

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

1 DAD weekend was something like 3 regular weekends. You still got time

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

never underestimate works that have an exponential factor of 3 in it, the more so if it has to domwith stones and rocks

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I truly enjoyed your commentary ?

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. You’re a good dad, and that’s some fine work. He’ll use the shit out of it- well done.

G.I. JOOOOOEEEEEEEEE!

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Started at 4pm?! i mean, you've already wasted half the weekend... go back to dad class

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4pm Friday :)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

:) im sure if you include your son, showing firsthand how men overcome obstacles, he'll remember it more than a pad installed over a weekend

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, I've made a deal with my wife. When I say I'm gonna "make a thing" that's only gonna cost 1/2 as much. I just buy it/ hire a guy.

Sounds like a lesson was learned at some point

Anybody who measures gravel in yards is not in Australia. Nice of you to offer though.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’ve been in the earthworks industry for 12 years now and you’ll be surprised how many people use yards.

Part of being a dad is making wild promises you never follow through on, like mine, when he said he'd, 'be right back' from the store.

7 years ago | Likes 1021 Dislikes 6

Hmmm...which happens, dads leave, no need to be a pussy about it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You know how I can tell? 'cause we're connected!

My dad left my mom after she got hooked on cough drops. By the end, her breath was so fresh, she wasn’t really my mother anymore

I'm sure he just made a mistake, like mine did, and after the store he mistakenly went back to his other wife and kids. Oopsie, silly dad.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He took the old way, uphill both ways through a blizzard fighting off wolves, and when he got to the station they were out of menthol cigs.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude, at least you know where he is. Most likely got employed at the store & is working a lot of overtime.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My mom is already at the diner, and my dad went to 7/11 to get scratchers. I guess he won because that was 6 years ago.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I was looking for the plan b, but i couldn’t find it in time.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... Dad?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Every time you go to the damn store they've rearranged the fucker. I swear they do it just to fuck with us

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd watch a horror movie of dads trapped in a supermarket that turns out to be a new version of The Cube.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aw sheeet, I love those movies

My father said we would see the Amazon Rainforest, a ghosttown, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. We have gone to Oregon.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey, Oregon's pretty great!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahaha, I'm not saying it isn't. It was beautiful, but it sure as shit isn't an Amazon Rainforest.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a boregon.
