It’s sad, but I really think the future of the us depends on the actions of this kind of young, bright men and women putting their lives at risk to make a point. The younger are children and the older have been compliant for too long, new ideas are hard to take root and when they do they have too much to lose and too little anger for a future they long stopped believing in.

In the lead up to WW2 in the 1930s the Nazis were essentially saying the same thing. They were tired of Europe treading on them after the treaty of Versailles took away their military might and imposed harsh penalties. The Nazi party used this to radicalize young men and created the Brown Shirts or Gestapo to enforce their ideology and remove any dissent. The US is following a very similar pattern and the whole world is watching.

I don't think the photo was altered. I seem to recall there was some controversy around a version of the photo where they airbrushed the fence post out since it looks odd sticking from the top of her head. I imagine toning down the blood would be a much bigger deal. It's probably just because of how the light is hitting it that it's less noticeable.
