Stick insects are generally pretty friendly and make decent pets, so I doubt that these big guys would be much different.

Stick insects are harmless, they literally have no way to harm you.
Even the big ones can't do much to you.

I mean, if you let them crawl on your eyeballs then it could hurt you.
But if it's just climbing on your arm, it can't damage you.
They have no real means of attack, no stingers or fangs.

As an Australian, it's really not as bad as people make it out to be.
As most of the animals people like to fearmonger about live in such remote places, that you would have to travel way out of your way and really search to find most of them.

And when they don't check in, we know there are some in that area.

I look at other places with bears and shit and am like 'yeah glad I'm not there.' Sure we do have pretty dangerous snakes you have to be careful of but there are no large predators.

Yeah, the way I describe it is that the majority of the deadly animals here can be killed with a well thrown shoe.
Because the bulk of Australian animals are the size of a house cat or smaller. With only a handful of exceptions.
