Day 1 of going to the gym
I have been unhappy. I have been overweight. And I'm finally fucking doing something about it. 20 minutes on the treadmill and 15 on the bike. It isn't much but I don't care. I feel good. I look like shit but I feel good.
Moose tax. We're working on him being my walking buddy.
Edit: Thank you to everyone that has been posting positive and motivational comments. I promise to post day 2. Just trying to avoid the selfies per the rules. Thank you all. I promise I'm reading everything and upvote all you beautiful people leaving nice comments.
I'll see y'all day 2!
MV Edit: Holy crap thank you guys! I didn't expect this outpouring of support. I will not disappoint you with a Day 2 update. I know it's cliche but send female nudes! (Always wanted to do that!)
Edit 3: Day 2 has been posted: https://imgur.com/gallery/sevUoui

“21 days to make a habit, 90 days create a lifestyle.” You can do it and if you need motivation we’re here, and maybe we’ll encourage you
darkladyvanstar

KhajiitHasDoneNothing

UglyHorribleGrouchyOldMan
Wait a minute, I stayed at home today and still worked out. WTF over?
eequalsmcsquared
It’s true! I stayed home and now I’m jealous.
GoodNewsCigaretteJuice
I stayed at home, am in the middle of a 3 day fast, and did 50 pullups today... so I did stuff!! Kudos to this guy, really tho, keep it up
donbelinelli
Hell yea man. Congrats on feeling better.

bootboymn
Literally the hardest part is done, keep it up
Zipbang
You are a beautiful bastard!..... who looks alot like the guy in the mirror...
AzraelEternity
Well I'm starting with the man in the mirror. I'm asking him to change his ways.
Zipbang
I’m pulling for you! You give me hope!
angelsichor
Fucking good job. You're doing 100% more than you were yesterday. Do it again man! You got this no bother to you and Moose.
AzraelEternity
Instructions unclear. 100% * 0 = 0.
TheMaskedRaven
Keep it up, OP! You're doing great!
iamsureicanfixthat2
Do you know who wants you around forever? That dog of yours. Don't let him down. Don't let yourself down. Keep at it my friend! You can do t
AzraelEternity
Working on making both of them proud. ;)
blackandwhyte
Fuckin rights. Atta boy.
imguRiddler
Stick with the bike to build up your stamina and preserve your knees. Treadmills are high impact in more ways than one...
ghoststts
Always felt that elliptical were the best for cardio.
AzraelEternity
Thank you for the advice. I was only going at a walking pace. I dont have the stamina yet for an actual job or run.
onlyonemaxpower
Hell yeah !!!!
itsallinthenips
Congrats bro. As someone who was scared to shitless to start working out to now owning a gym- ask ppl for help (staff AND members).
itsallinthenips
Ppl are not as cruel as you think. You'll think ppl are staring at you, they're not. The ones that are, fuck em
AzraelEternity
Gym is at my apartment complex so its 100% unmanned. Eventually I'll be getting a gym membership once I start consistently going.
NowWatchMeGlitch
You’re still lapping the old you that sat on the couch. Don’t get discouraged and keep going until you’re happy with yourself.
DrDD22
You worked up a sweat too, good job!! Don’t fall prey to treating yourself afterwards though. Some people gain weight because of that.
AzraelEternity
Yeah hit 140+ bpm on the bike doing about 20mph.
BJA007
The hell is going on with that ceiling?
AzraelEternity
Really old ceiling meets much more recent building.
BJA007
looks like some underground escape room stuff. Chasing around victims could be a good workout ;)
AzraelEternity
Naw it's a small building. Wouldn't chase far.
BJA007
reminded me of this movie (sucked balls, dont waste your time)
NowShowButthole
Congrats and good for you, Hodor!
BORGALOOGIE
Hodor! Wanted to shoutout exact same, then read description; good job Walder
AzraelEternity
Hodor. (Thanks.)
OneDayiWillDateAlisonBrie
he looks more like Andre the giant if you ask me
SephiRothIRA
Was looking for this. He is the Brute Squad.
iamsureicanfixthat2
This is my third message, but I am just extremely excited for you. And you don't look like s***. You look like a man that is driven.
dwude
AnyColorYouLike
Keep going man! You already done the hard part that is the first step to change. Hope to see you more days here!
LawyerPickleRick
KEEP IT UP! Everyday is a challenge RISE UP TO IT
TimeWastedThinkingOfUsernamesThatAreAlreadyTaken
You got this! See you on day two.
iHaveANewPuppy
Also see you and day 366 and further and see how good you feel about yourself, good work dude
PointItAtED209
Don't take three days off, and definitely don't take a week off. Even if you have been at it for years it's very difficult to start back up.
lazlo09
High fat/protein low carb diet. 60 min excercise a day, first fast walks then lifting weights. I dropped 45 kg in 10 months, looking good!
lazlo09
And dont listen to "cant build muscle or mass after x age" Im 41 and growing muscles fast. Creatine, whey protein and a macro calculator...
bkkhk
Yeah you should complete with the sea monkeys person to see who can get the most rabid followers
AzraelEternity
I'll be there.
TheBadPro
BMoh481
Get it, my dude. I’m proud of you, bud
Aslesen
Keep going, progress is progress not matter how small!
IWentToImgurAndAllIGotWasThisShittyUsername
Imgur is rooting like a motherfucker for you!
AzraelEternity
I know I'm so confused how this happened.
Snubmybub
drtingle
Fuck yeah man im pumped for ypu?
Wanderingmaniac
One step at a time. Look at where you were yesterday.... Instead of directly seeing the goal which may seem difficult.
IWentToImgurAndAllIGotWasThisShittyUsername
Kick... some.... ass!!!
TauCommander40K
@OP if you get to day 2, I'll start using my equipment at home.
AzraelEternity
Get ready to start sweating.
proto99trees
AzraelEternity
Me too. I'd sweat in an icebox.
RhinoNaut
That's the spirit. Tip, the hard part isn't day 1 or 2, but to make this into a part of your daily routine. Try exercising on certain days.
AzraelEternity
21 days to make a habit. 90 days to make a lifestyle.
RhinoNaut
I think you've got his.
AzraelEternity
I'm planning to.
ambispankterous
I would love to see a daily for this! You just might inspire me to get my ass goin’
AzraelEternity
I mean I can send you a picture of me in my underwear. That might be enough motivation to not wait. lol
ambispankterous
Oh man, that might be too much awesome for any one person to handle haha
AzraelEternity
I can reassure you it is too much fail. But thanks for the enthusiasm.
ImAnActionBirb
You’re inspiring me. Thank you. Keep up the great work
SkippNeilson
When you wake up and say "fuck it. Not going", suck it up and push through it.
fourfingersdeep
Yeah don’t listen to the negativity dude you got this, not gonna lie to you will be a struggle don’t expect instant results give it a month
DirectingTom
I love that this comment has no downvotes. You got this. It only takes a couple of weeks/months to see results and that motivates immensely
TheMostOffensiveAndInsensitiveNameEverMade
Imagine an angel and a devil on your shoulder, except they're both Asian parents. Should help.
RX7zx6r
He’ll be a doctor in no time
einthedog2
I say to myself just go there and do what I can, just showing up is enough!
M4NNING
That’s a fucking bingo. Some of the best workouts come out of days you don’t want it.
RX7zx6r
So some workouts are better than others? You gym people are crazy
M4NNING
I didn’t start as a gym person. I didn’t realize how good it felt to be in shape. Sad to think I was missing out on this for 35 years.
M4NNING
The only thing holding me back was me being a fat lazy excuse making bitch.
RX7zx6r
It’s kinda like I was a Miata and you were a semi-truck but now we’re sports cars.
RX7zx6r
Pretty much same story as you except I was hella skinny. I know what you mean by missing out on being in shape. Just hate working out lol.
Tombaugh
Just work out at home with push up sit ups... and then go to the gym.
Yallendalf
Saying “fuck it” to myself is how I stop procrastinating, it just somehow works
AzraelEternity
That's what I'm planning on. Motivation is weak. Cultivate discipline.
grandmastonguekiss
They say the hardest part of going to the gym is putting your shoes on and going! Once you're there, you'll find the motivation.
crunchyDANGERhaystacks
Literally just getting there is 2/3rds
TheWorstCommentsComeFromTheBestPeople
Soon enough that shit will become addicting.
M4NNING
Diet diet diet.
Sayagain
Incase anyone hasn't mentioned it. Terry crews said to treat it like a spa day. Even if you dont want to get a full workout in 1/2
Sayagain
Get to the gym atleast, relax and enjoy it. I would bring books and just hop on a bike. Getting to the gym is a huge step!!!
Eidusloemus
The trick to staying motivated according to the rock is just going and building the routine. If you feel like crap, take a book to the gym.
nagesagi
These days suck. You will come up with every reason to not to. But in the future, you will look at yourself and say "Damn, I did it"
erdogansfatpinkpusspuss
Dude when i dont wana go to the gym i push myself and go then durin and after the workout i feel so good for actually completing the workout
AzraelEternity
That's what I've heard from a bunch of people is that the workout isn't the payoff. It's making the effort to do it.
DiscoveredByTheGermansIn1904
Sounds like you're there, man!
Henchman1
Hell yes! But also accept that you will fail sometimes, and that's ok. Just win more than you lose and you'll be there before you know it.
AzraelEternity
2 steps forward for every one step back. No journey is a straight line. Got it.
gexmaster19910
Well not like you have a choice any more. If you don't go your gonna have to make a new imgur account cuz people here actually care. Ugotus
AzraelEternity
Yeah I'm seeing that. It's more pressure than I was expecting but I gotta do this for me, not them.
AzothTheGuildRat
Discipline > motivation
AzraelEternity
That's what I keep trying to remember.
usernamepolice
Motivation in general is weak. Don't count on it. Discipline and perserverence are much more helpful
byzan
You can do it buddy. Don't underestimate the role of diet change in addition to working out too. Been there, and it can be tough
AzraelEternity
Yeah, cutting down on my portion sizes has made a big difference. I don't feel bloated as much.
theshinobi23
Careful pushing too hard at first, though. I suggest heel cups and lots of stretching before and after. Shin splints are a bitch.
AzraelEternity
I need to learn stretches. That's a good point. What are heel cups? And do they make them in size 15?
theshinobi23
Heel cups are inserts for your shoes that help support your heel and also help with preventing/relieving pain from shin splints.
theshinobi23
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MSZT7O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5q3ECb0H9PVSM also helps with plantar fasciitis.
T64000
Goggins.
SpookyNerd
Show the rest of us that we can do it too by sticking with it. We really need inspiration.
neutronfish
Yes. At some point, your body will pull you to the gym and you’ll feel weird if you don’t go. Keep pushing until that point.
emanneb61337
I missed 2 days this week because I had to work insane hours. Today is my first chance to "sleep" all week and im up waiting for gym time
BjarkeDuDe
Not knowing this is the #1 reason why people fail. You will succeed my brother!
Whiteoak789
Once you start getting into the habit though you wont want to miss it for anything. Just getting started and keeping consistent is hardest.
Rogahar
When I was losing weight after college I made myself leave the house sharp every morning for as long of a jog as I could manage. I hated >
Rogahar
> it some mornings but within all of a few weeks I had coworkers and friends asking if I'd lost weight. @OP, others will see the >
Rogahar
> difference before you do, so don't lose faith.
AzraelEternity
I'm sure I'll have people noticing because I won't shut up about any weight I lose. lol
GregRobertson
Make it an essential part of your life, like breathing.
AzraelEternity
The goal is to continue breathing so I'm on the right track.
lariskyme1
It's been said that if you do something everyday for 2 weeks it becomes a habit. It has worked for me w other things. muscle rub helps!
GregRobertson
Yes, I’ve been at it 5d/week for 6 months and have dropped 20lbs. Finally seeing results, you have to prime the pump before you see results.
AzraelEternity
21 days is a habit. 90 days is a lifestyle. I've seen that a lot.
Redandpurpleunicorns
I always found saying "I'm not allowed to decide not to go until I'm dressed and ready to go" really helped me. Maybe that will work for you
AzraelEternity
Maybe. The gym is at my apartment complex so its not like I have to go far but I get the idea.
Redandpurpleunicorns
You still have to get out of bed and put on your running shoes. I jog near where I live and that's what I do.
AzraelEternity
Good point. Thank you!
lovefromAustralia
This will get lost in the sea of replies but from a PT, if you wake up and just cant do it, dont go. But dont do that twice in a row
AzraelEternity
Three days is a killer is what I've seen.
ThatOtherMacAvoyWoman
As someone with depression, every day I wake up and just can’t go.
AzraelEternity
Gotta find your motivation. Mine at present is "I don't want to die."
lovefromAustralia
Yeah been there, sorry to hear. Meds worked great for me, then went vegan and I'm off them, not recommending, just found it pretty cool
