As someone who's first language is English, this could absolutely be playing in the background and I wouldn't think twice about it unless I stopped and tried to parse the lyrics. And even then I might just think he's a mumble singer or has an accent. Not like I've never heard a song with incomprehensible lyrics before.
Yeah I wouldn't doubt it. The vocal inflections are spot on, and the amazing part is there's no particular regional accent sounds that I can discern, except that it doesn't sound British -- it sounds distinctly American.
