I experienced it once when I was a kid in Hong Kong. Right next to the sea with a heavy typhoon coming in, jumped up, wind caught me and threw me towards a wall. You can imagine the whole, I've made a huge mistake thought. Fortunately I was on grass and the wind dropped. For a second I thought that was it.
I wonder where this was taken, as Patagonia is a very large region. It is beautiful down there, though it can get quite harsh depending on where you find yourself.
Yeah my brother and his friends did a trek there a couple years ago and still the most stunning photos I have ever seen, he never mentioned the wind as an issue
It's a beautiful place, though it has been a couple decades since I was there. I toured the coastline from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and then a cargo ferry up to Puerto Montt. It was a fascinating area and incredibly diverse.
The winds though can be brutal. I came across them in the sandy towns that would just get blasted. And then when I went down to the Straits of Magellan, and it was a "good day", but the winds and waves were just crazy!
Survival sense is not a common trait in field researchers. "Why yes, I would love to go traipsing about this unexplored portion of the jungle with large predators that have no fear of humanity." "I only have to pay attention for 7 different types of lethal venomous animals, sure! That's like crossing the street." "I have to lose 10lbs or risk being trapped after squeezing through the passage to the study site. I needed to lose weight."
I studied cicadas, so I was tame and stuck to the eastern half of the usa. But my roommate would come back from kruger national park with stories like, "so I was a couple of feet from this thick branch in the middle of the trail and it ended up being a puff adder," or "i turned a corner and there was a wild water buffalo just on the other side of the creek." My advisor would laugh and tell stories about his time studying in the amazon, "haha, I am glad I found that spider b4 i put my hand there
