Check ebay sold listings for old hardware sometime. If you want hardware that performs just like the old stuff, because it is that, and still works, it's not as though they're still making it. Huge amounts would have just gone in the trash, and it takes time for someone to verify it works or troubleshoot by trying to get it up and running (a windows98 install would be something like 45-60m before you do anything else)
Retro computing is a hobby for various groups; not just Apple people. For example, one of the people I follow collects retro/vintage enterprise stuff, mostly networking gear: https://www.youtube.com/@clabretro Another does a lot of DOS/Windows 98/XP gaming tutorials and benchmarks: https://www.youtube.com/@philscomputerlab

This isn’t ‘Apple people’ buying this, it’s people with an interest in retro computers.

They don't pay for the stats, they pay for the brand. No different than people who buy nikes.

The price seems high to me, too, bit who knows who might need this specific hardware?
