Starting off the road trip! Ready for 30+ hours of driving.

Behind the famous Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.

Another view of the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.

The equally famous Skogafoss Waterfall. Don't be fooled, there were tons of people here. It was breathtakingly beautiful though!

If you walk up the stairs beside the waterfall to the top area, you can walk along the source of the waterfall!

The Sólheimasandur Plane Crash. Don't be fooled by old blog posts saying that it's hard to find, it's not, there are huge yellow markers that escort you the whole way there.

One of the many one lane-two way bridges of iceland, this one was on our way to the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon.

The Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon.

My personal favourite! The Svartifoss Waterfall in all it's beautiful majestic-ness!

Another favourite! The Jokusarlon Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach.

On the road down to Seydisfjodur. Ended up being one of our other favourites. Actually the whole trip was a continuous favourite!

My boyfriend standing in front of Gufofoss.

The church in Seydisfjodur.

Majestic sheep!

The Hverir Geothermal Vents and surrounding area of Myvatn.

The Hverir Geothermal Vents. Smells like sulphur, aka rotten eggs, aka poop.

The Leirhnjukur Lava Field and Geothermal Pools.

The Krafla Power Station!

The Grjotagja Geothermal Cave, aka the Game of Thrones cave!

Magnificent Godafoss Waterfall.

Siglufjodhur, I think?

On the road!

More on the road. This country is seriously TOO picturesque!

More sheep gangs. Watch yourself!

The Grundarfjörður Church.

The Kirkjufell Mountain and the Snaesfellsnes Peninsula! Worth the extra side trip. Warning: tour busses can lock in your car in the teensy parking lot. Beware haha.

The classic little Icelandic house photo :)

Northern lights!! We were so luck, it was late September/early october so sometimes tourists don't get to see them, but we got 3 nights of them! My night photography definitely isn't on point, so it's something to work on for next time! :)

More Northern lights!!

One more! Northern lights!!

Start of the Golden Circle: Þingvellir (aka Thingvellir) National Park.

More Golden Circle: Þingvellir (aka Thingvellir) National Park.

More Golden Circle: Þingvellir (aka Thingvellir) National Park.

More Golden Circle: The Great Geysir and Strokkur Geyser. Didn't get a good photo of Strokkur in action because it was a grey day, so you couldn't actually see the water against the sky very well.

More Golden Circle: The Great Geysir and Strokkur Geyser

More Golden Circle: Gulfoss Waterfall

More Golden Circle: Reykjavik and the Hallgrimskirkja Chruch

More Golden Circle: Closeup of Hallgrimskirkja Chruch

More Golden Circle: Inside of Hallgrimskirkja Chruch! But no view from the top because we arrived late in the day and a wedding was going to be happening to they were closing.

More Golden Circle: We did get a view from La Perlan though! And it's free :)
Thanks for looking!

If you want more info: we have a crappy, moslty-empty blog. Except for the Iceland post haha :)

Iceland looks beautiful and chilly. It doesn't look too cold there, not like here today, 1 degree F above zero. Next time come to Alaska!

Great pictures @OP! I'm going to Iceland this year with some friends. Your blog was really helpful.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yay! I was hoping it would be helpful. I found few "straightforward" itineraries when I was researching, so made my own!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

haha perfect! we arrived too late to visit the top!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where's the ice?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Also it was named Iceland by its founders because they didn't want others to go there so they sent them to Greenland (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Which is 80% covered in ice whereas only roughly 11% of Iceland is covered in ice! (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In Greenland.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Every place name in Iceland looks like someone's cat walked across their keyboard when they were trying to type it out

9 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 0

I know Swedish, so Icelandic looks like what Old English probably looks to an English speaker.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

lol yeah, but at least you know when a waterfall is near "xxxfoss" haha

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The waterfall isn't *near* “Xxxfoss”, it *is* “Xxxfoss”. “Foss” literally means waterfall.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Also after the first couple of days you stop stopping for xxxFoss because there are soooo many :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you check out the Blue Lagoon hot springs? Probably one of the best parts of Iceland!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lol to you too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We didn't. It was pretty $$$, and we're gone for 8 months, so gotta budget!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, shame! Enjoy the next 8 months :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We also skipped blue lagoon for the same reason but went to some random spring in a giant field and it was a fun experience.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

be glad you skipped it, it's very overrated

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't think it was over rated but each to their own, I guess!
