I'm just gonna stay away even if there aren't people with guns guarding it ready to shoot on sight. If some control mechanism fails, that water gonna get blown away, boil me whole, or have some other spectacularly bad circumstance that wouldn't be healthy to be exposed to.

Reminds me of a show where they focuses on a host visiting sites where they were doing heavy lifts with cranes. One was a turbine replacement at a nuclear plant. The host had a few conversations with the armed security guards present. About half way through the episode he made a comment to one about realizing they were there to protect the reactor from him and his filming crew.

The point of the pool is to shield radiation so it makes sense that the pool is deep enough to attenuate the radiation to safe levels plus a factor of safety (1.5, 2.0, 2.5, whatever) so it makes sense that the top layer is fine. If it wasn't fine the pool is underspec'd.

they want to keep the water as clean as possible, so no they dont even let people get close to the water during tours. radiation has nothing to do with it, its more that a piece of debris getting caught in a pump or valve will cause tens of millions dollars worth of damage/downtime.

Let me clear it up. Speed of light in a vacuum - the fastest. Light zipping through water - slower than zipping through vacuum. Particles zipping through water faster than light in water but slower than light in vacuum = Cherenkov Radiation.

That pool is spent fuel cooling, not a reactor. It is not blue form Cherenkov radiation. It is blue because that is the natural color of water and that becomes more obvious when there is a lot of it, and from ambient lighting.

But it IS blue from Cherenkov radiation. The effect is strongest immediately after offloading recently irradiated fuel, but persists for years.

The energy of cherenkov radiation is approximately proportional to wavelength, which is why it appears such brilliant blue (the upper limit of perception). It also dissipates with distance. So it wouldn't appear either as aquamarine, nor uniform through the pool. Here's an example where both are present, and you can see quite a difference in both color and uniformity.

If you have proportional barrel length and propellent load and the same propellant and projectile shape, guns from the same era should have a kinetic energy proportional to the cube of the barrel width/projectile width. That is a lot of ifs.

because the 7.62 NATO round was infamously uncontrollable in full auto and was unreliable against unarmored targets, it went so fast it just punched through them with minimal stopping power. It's why the 5.56 was designed, it's built from they ground up to kill civilians and unarmored combatants. The 6.8 FURY round is designed to defeat body armor at extreme ranges without being uncontrollable the way the 7.62 is

Saying it was designed to kill civilians is a bit loaded, given that soldiers weren't wearing armor at the time. It was designed to kill the military threat it was facing, which from armies large and small, was humans sans armor. Being optimized to kill civilians is coincidental. That is, unless you can source the creator saying he did it on purpose. Otherwise, it was designed to eliminate the military that of the time: guys in shirts.
